May not be 7200 RPM!!! May be 5900 RPM.

The only retailer I could find that posted the specs was MicroCenter: http://www.microcenter.com/single...id=0352924

While Bestbuy.com lists 7200, the same model number is listed as 5900 on microcenter. A poster in this thread also stated he got a 5900 rpm drive. Something to consider before buying.

Received my drive today it is a Barracuda Green 2TB (rated at 5900RPM, not 7200RPM). Date of manuf: 05/2011
This drive can be used internally (I'm using it as a storage drive, might have difficulty as a boot drive) by opening up the external enclosure and installing in your computer case. It works for me no problems so far. Using Windows 7. StevenQ

Anyone know if you can remove the drive from these Seagate externals (2TB or 3TB) for use internally? I know sometimes you can, sometimes you can't (some are soldered to a proprietary connector).

Thanks, ordered one 3TB with coupon.
$85 (before tax) is a very good price for a 3TB USB3.0 external drive, especially during this post Thailand flood times.
Will see how bad the thermal issue is when I get the drive. May have to open it to use it as internal if necessary.

Thanks, I just bought this and then went to Amazon to look at reviews. It only has 2 1/2 stars out of 70 reviews which initially freaked me out but then I started reading them and almost every one of them is a douchy mac user that was having problems. I have windows so hopefully it works for me.

Can someone confirm that conversion is easy? I have never done it before.

Is the drive like this where it has a SATA adaptor? http://www.thebestcasescenario.co...hp?t=16339

Went with the 3TB version, after instant savings and 25 off coupon came to 92.00 shipped. I'll take that as HDD deals on 2TB sizes have been this much with a coupon.

Comments on that 3TB model seem to suggest that it is the older model that doesn't have vents and will eventually cook the hard drive. They changed the design in the current model to have vents.
