I tried going cheaper. I bought a Pandigital. It's painfully slow. I checked all the BF ads for a quality Tablet under 200. Notta shake head

"Google released the source code for Android 4.0 (ICS) 2 days ago (Monday 11/14/11). I called Le Pan about the wifi issue today and confirmed that it was probably because of the old OS. I asked when I'd be able to upgrade the OS, and they said that their engineering folks were now saying it would be impossible to upgrade, but that they'd be coming out with a new tablet next year that would support it. I would be stuck with my current OS. I explained how limited the functionality was and how I wouldn't have bought it if they hadn't reassured me that it would soon have the fully functioning OS and asked for a refund."

The previous comments are saying that with the BF season, the price does not cut it. Being that you began with Pandigital, it appears that your primary requirement is price.
I dont think the Matsunichi - Le Pan TC 970 is necessarily a bad product - the specs are decent. The OS is stuck until someone hacks the multicore requirement for ICS. And, it is better than some of the bargain-China-crap sometimes peddled on SD.

Alternatives at about $200: (listed by preference/ margin of 5%)
Acer Iconia A100 (7") Black Friday @BB
Nook Tablet (7") anytime at B&N
Kindle Fire (7") anytime @Amazon
Nook Color (7") at B&N (refurbs at $150 should drop some)
Touchpad (9.7") from CL (meet outside the police station)
Playbook (7") BF @ Staples (under 200 with coupons)/ Walmart/BB/RS

All but the A100 has some limitations (no SD expansion/locked storage for vendor only content/no HDMI/no camera/Low number of Apps/dead OS) - some can be corrected with hacking.

Today Staples had the 16GB for $200-coupons and rewards + TAX. Most people got it for 175 + TAX, and to boot, they could not fulfill all the orders and substituted the 32GB model for the same price. Maybe I should not of said that.

Check on the BlackBerry site, or Crackberry, or just google for the Android Player. It is in beta, but its use will open up your access to many Android apps. Be aware, you will hear chatter about RIM's impending doom and that Playbook is going the way of Touchpad. Even if that is so, by the time you feel the effects it will be a few years and it would be time of a new device.

I just came across this tablet too, and thought I'd search to see if it had ever gone for less. I'm surprised at how many TD this got. 4.5-stars out of 94 reviews on Amazon. On other Android forums (XDA being one of them), people who have bought this seem to love it. Seems to have a multi-touch glass capacitive screen, LCD is 4:3 (way better for a tablet than 16:9, IMO), reviewers claim great viewing angles, and has the OMAP3630, a 1GHz version of the 800MHz OMAP3621 found in the Nook Color. Is the reason this got a lot of TD due to being an unfamiliar brand?

I don't want a 7" screen tablet, and I'm not buying a used HP Touchpad because I hate dealing with Craigslisters. Unfortunately, I missed the Newegg Toshiba Thrive deal that was live for only 6-minutes. Is there something else out there around this price that's better with a 9.7"+ screen?

Yeah, the more I research this tablet, the more I think the TD is undeserved. I checked the FCC ID on the FCC site and the internal images look like pretty nice quality construction, nothing like the POS ZT180 I bought awhile back. Best part was it uses an LG LP097X02-SLA2 LCD panel - the same one used in the original iPad. That explains why all the reviewers only had great things to say about the screen.

Looks reasonably responsive as well on the Newegg video for it.
