This works for all browsers. I've used ad block and ad muncher is more effective IMO. I have ad muncher as a single program yet it blocks ads when I use Chrome, IE or Firefox. It also has a few more features that you would need other extensions/add ons for in Chrome or FF.

I've used AM for years and have never had any download issues with it in the past so I'm not sure what's up.

sites get paid per impression, if you don't load the ad, they don't get the impression, they don't get the money.

i would think ad companies LIKE ad blockers. the people who are tech savy enough to install and have these ad blockers are probably the same people who don't click/ignore ads. why spend money on those users?
