DOLICA ZX600B300 60" Carbon Fiber & Ballhead Combo for $99.99

Looks like the leg lock is using twist lock type. Pretty sweet considering twist lock and carbon fiber are usually $200-300+ without head. Wonder how much this tripod actually weights since I don't see it in the spec?

Actually, I just found the spec. It says it on the image's box:

Most likely the 17lbs weight from Newegg description is tripod legs only. The head with tripod combines can only support 13lbs. 3.8lbs is alright considering it is carbon fiber, the head in the image looks like it weights half of the tripod already... Pretty heavy duty...

Picked up a Pentax K5 and have been looking for a nice tripod at a good price. Passed on a few amazon lightning deals. But jumped on this. Is funny how a lightning deal sells out in 20 seconds and this one is still avail and seems like the best deal so far. +1, thanks OP!!!

I wrote to Dolica and received the following spec sheet for this tripod. Kind of short, but I'm in for 1.

I'm not familar with these types of tripods. Without arms screwed in how to get a smooth pan?

There are 2 knobs that control the direction of the camera (3rd is a release knob). The upper one controls a full ball joint that moves in every direction. The lower one controls a joint that only rotates around. You can pan left-right by loosening that joint.

That said, this head does look super cheap (plasticy) and I personally wouldn't trust an expensive camera on it. $100 for the legs may be a good price for cf though, since you probably won't get a name brand for less than twice that.

The head from Newegg image doesn't look plastic. It definitely looks metal, someone can confirm on this. Also, the spec sheet shows it can hold 17lbs, plastic head cannot hold anywhere 1/2 of that, so I can guess this is a professional head with CF leg.

Tempted... but the net weight of this is 3.5 lbs which is heavier than the Aluminum Dolica at 2.9 lbs from a previous SD? Carbon Fiber is heavier than Aluminum?

The ball head is different, though. Looks a lot studier as it's also a twist type (along with the legs), which is probably where the added weight comes from. From the Newegg pictures, it's impossible to tell if the ball head is aluminum or plastic as the head itself is surrounded by the enclosure. I would seriously doubt it is plastic though from the weight it can carry.

I will probably pull the trigger on this. Good-looking tripod if it can live up to the functionality/price of previous Aluminum Dolica.

You can't for one second actually believe the given load capacities on a no-name brand head. I bet it can hold 17 lbs. I also bet it will sag with more than 3lbs though unless the center of gravity is perfectly aligned above the head.

Hi attached is a couple images of the ZX600B300 with Canon 5D Mk II all accessorized out. I have it in both stanard lanscape position and vertical positon. In veritcal position is lens mounted to balance it out. The ballhead is aluminun alloy. Its an design modeled after the Gitzo GH1780QR ballhead. Anyone who looks up Gitzo will know this is an expensive head. So overall its modeled after a very nice design and the big adjustment knob works well in fine tuning the ballhead angle. Hope this info helps.
