WalMart and violence..

most people know about the pepper spray incident that occured BF at a WalMart in Ca. But as I continued to read other stories I saw this:

Witnesses told Phoenix TV station KSAZ that police thought the 54-year-old grandfather was stealing the video game. •In Kinston, N.C., an early Friday scuffle erupted between Walmart customers trying to snap up cellphones marked down from $200 to $35. An off-duty Kinston police officer working security for the store pepper sprayed several consumers. One unidentified shopper was arrested. •Police used a stun gun to subdue Walmart shopper Brian Shellnutt in Milford, Conn., after he allegedly hit another shopper in a Thursday night fight while waiting to buy video games. Shellnutt, 26, faces assault and other charges. •A man was arrested in a scuffle at a jewelry counter at a Kissimmee, Fla., Walmart. And near Muskegon, MI., a teen suffered minor injuries after being knocked over and stepped on repeatedly in a consumer rush to the electronics department. Separately, bomb threats were made at Walmart stores in Woodland Park, Colo., Neosho, Mo., and the chain's hometown, Bentonville, Ark.

I didn't even think the deals at WalMart were all that great whatsoever.. but somehow all the violence seems to revolve around WalMart stores.

Walmart shoppers are a self-selecting group. Based on my (thankfully) few Walmart experiences over the last few years, I'm not surprised. Maybe those with enough sense not to trample each other for a $2 waffle iron also have enough sense to do their Black Friday shopping at Walmart.com.

Yeah, you have to remember the general clientele that the average WM attracts. Of course, getting people all riled up over a "deal" doesn't help.

I wonder how many more of these types of incidents need to happen before WM does something about it? Like.... not having midnight madness sales.

all the violence? you think this is a comprehensive list of all incidents that took place while shopping?

I hear what you're saying, but I missed the link where you posted more incidents by number or percentage at any other department stores. You mind posting it again? Maybe it's the Liberal media bias vs. WalMart?

My not presenting stuff doesn't mean you're correct. You didn't post any numbers or percentages either. Just a list of a few things that happened. Which you believe is to be comprehensive for reasons that are beyond me.

Your article doesn't only make it sound like violence only plagues black friday. It doesn't, of course. It's the same bogus statistical "work." Nor were all those crimes related to BF, walmart, or shopping in general. Some of them were likely gang-related.

I'm just pointing out your logical fallacy.

I've been to plenty of Black Friday sales, and there is no doubt in my mind that Wal-Mart, Target, and the local police don't care. They simply won't do anything that gets in the way of getting cash into the till on that day. Period. That's why they don't hand out numbers, and they don't let people into the store gradually, and they don't hand out tokens for the units in limited supply. Best Buy does these things, and Target and Wal-Mart don't. It's just that simple. They want a feeding frenzy, they know that it's lead people to die, and they don't care.

These two companies are unethical and they don't deserve any more of my money, especially Wal-Mart.

so if gang related violence occurs in WalMart, it's.. not WalMart violence.. it's gang violence that mystically occurred at a location that by pure chance happens to be WalMart? How much gang violence do you think occurs as say.. the Gap? or BonTon? or .. whatever.. there is a relationship between the clientele you attract and incidents that occur.

true. ? I'd be happy to link to the RSS feed that my city uses to give you every count of theft, vandalism, arrests etc.. Some areas do report every crime that occurs. So the majority of crimes only in certain areas are not reported in the local news. Does that mean they're not available elsewhere?

But as towards the actual topic I would like to point the single business with the most police complaints in my entire city.. You'd think it would be a bar.. maybe a club.. maybe even WalMart (based on size and clientele). Actually it's Chuck E. Cheese. It's become so bad they actually have on duty police officer sit outside during the Chuck E. Cheese business hours.

I tend to somewhat agree w/ this.. I've only stood outside on BF at one place (Best Buy). The numbering system works well. The description of how WalMart places their items sounds like a recipe for destruction. At Best Buy it's the earliest get the deals (although.. I've seen some minor altercations with people just cutting into a line outside). At WalMart they basically create a no holds barred survival of the fittest sorta scenario.. To place people in situations like this (in possible danger) seems very unethical.
