Let's see, your local tax rate has to be 7.5% or less in order for this to even be a wash. Even then, it's really not a wash since you have to use the gift card for $15 in potentially useless stuff just to get back to the price everyone pays at Amazon. As for paying with rewards, why not buy something that's good value with your rewards instead of retail price?

Look on ebay for 25 / 75 instore coupons for officemax and the deal is sweater.

I doubt you will see under retail price for a kindle anytime soon (besides YMMV stuff). I have like $1000 to spend in rewards to OM. Anything you suggest to be "good value"?

just my 2 cents....always buy their paper deals with the exact dollar rebate.
right now, $32 / case for x-9 paper. Use a $10 off 50, or $15 off 75. and rewards of course.
case paper for me sells at $21 - 23 / case.

2 cases of paper for nearly nothing, then $46 in cash.
I wouldn't sit on OM rewards, they are the most fragile of the office supercenters, think most people would agree with that. They declare bankruptcy, won't be using those rewards except for wallpaper.

The CC's are just regular VISA and Mastercard gift cards. Usable pretty much anywhere.

Timing couldnt have been better, used 10 of them to pay my bills online. It was kinda nice, getting a 9% discount on most of my bills just before Christmas

I actually used the mastercard I bought at OM to buy a $50 gc at Staples today, as you also got the bonus $10 gc. Hopefully they have something on sale that first week of january when those bonus gc's are good to use.

How were you lucky enough to snag 10x $100 gc's from OM ? My son was with me and I didn't even think to give him $91 to buy one himself. Then someone here at SD said I could have bought one visa and one mc ! Darn it !

It all depends on what you need, doesn't it? If you're looking to flip stuff then resale value is all that matters. And if you've got your heart set on a Kindle Fire then this is a decent way to blow some of your rewards (it just isn't hot or slick).

I use my rewards at OM frequently for closeout cameras and computers. Always seems that there's a table with decent deals at my local OM.
