Dual Monitor Help

Hey guys,

I am thinking about purchasing a second monitor, in addition to the current one I have connected to my laptop.

So right now I have my laptop and another monitor which is connected via VGA port.

The second monitor I am buying only allows DVI and VGA so is there some sort of adapter that I can have that allows the monitor to connect to that, and the adapter will connect into the laptop via HDMI since the one and only VGA port is being used by the first monitor?

If so, where and how much? Links to reputable sites that I can buy from? Preferably a slick deal.

If this helps, I run a Dell 1564 64 bit Windows 7.

If you use the monitors both at once, you won't be able to use your laptop's monitor at the same time. Computers can only support 2 monitors on a single gpu. You can buy an hdmi to dvi adapter. Don't go hdmi to vga, hdmi is digital while vga is analog.

So youre saying I cant have my laptops monitor running while I have 2 other monitors?

As for the converter part, if I buy an HDMI to DVI adapter, how would it work as the monitor only has an output of DVI and VGA and I only have a single HDMI port? Sorry a bit new to all of this.

Yes, you are correct. You cannot have three monitors running at once.

You can use an hdmi to dvi adapter to connect to your new monitor.

You use your existing vga connection to your current monitor.

Oh are you saying ..

The HDMI to DVI Cable/adapter works like so:

HDMI is plugged into the laptop and the other end, which is a DVI connector, plugs into the monitor (new one)?
