ADVICE ON CHOOSING WHICH TYPE OF CARD TO APPLY FOR:
If you are planning on keeping the card, the best card to apply for is the "Premiere" card. While it has a higher annual fee (99.00), each year on your anniversary you will get an amount of points equivalent to $100.00. Therefore, the card basically pays for itself.

If you are planning on cancelling the card, your best bet is to get the "plus" card because it has a lower annual fee, so you will take less of a loss if you are unable to cancel the card before you are on the hook for the annual fee. The Plus card also gives you points on your anniversarry, but only $50.00 worth, so you are essentially taking a $19.00 loss on the card every year if you keep the card.

FAQ (add/answer if you can):

[B]1. $69 Annual Fee:
a: When is it charged? -- After the first billing cycle (~30 days)
b: Can it be waived? -- The general consensus is NO, however one user reported a refund based on a separate but similar chase rewards offer. A small number of users suggest you might be able to avoid the annual fee if you cancel within the first 30 days (before the first billing cycle). I personally would factor the fee into the deal and treat a waiver/refund as a YMMV bonus.

2. Can my spouse and I, both living at the same adress get a card each and be eligible for promotion each? -- Yes. You should be able to get 2 cards each(regular and business). 3 cards might be possible if you don't have any other cards in the chase network, I don't think it is possible to get all 4 due max card count that Chase has in place.

3. Are there any other gift cards , other than AMAZON, that I can get?
A: Yes, Create an account at Southwest Rapid Rewards to view the retailers. There are quite a few options... Walmart would be another versatile option.

4. Many people are wondering what the deal is with companion flights? Anyone with info would be helping community greatly!
A: Once you have accrued 110,000 points within a calendar year, you become eligible for a "companion pass". Essentially, the person you designate as your companion pass holder will fly FREE with you every time you book a flight. The best part is that once you hit the 110,000 point mark, the companion pass is active for the remainder of the calendar year AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR. Because of this, if you are planning on keeping the card, it is advisable to refrain from making a purchase on your card until next year so that your 50,000 in points will apply towards your goal of 1110,000 for the year 2012.

5. I have a checking account and 2 CC's with Chase. Am I likely to be rejected because I already have three accounts opened with Chase?
A: No. I have a Chase checking & savings account and two Chase CCs. I was approved for this SW Chase card giving me five accounts with them.

6. What is the cashback equivalent of earning points with the card?
A: The answer to that is somewhat tricky. You earn 1 point for every dollar you spend on the card. However to judge the cashback value you should look at how valuable the points are when you are spending to redeem airfare. When you are spending points though, the type of airfare you are booking for ("business" vs. "anytime" vs. "wanna get away") has different valuations. The best "bang for your buck" is when you redeem points towards "wanna get away" fares, which is 60 points = $1 towards your airfare. When using this airfare type, you are essentially getting 1//60 of one dollar towards your airfare for every dollar you spend on the card, which means you are getting a cash back equivalent of 1.6 cents for every dollar or 1.6% cashback.

7. What if I'm rejected (for opening too many credit accounts recently or otherwise)?
A: Call the reconsideration line at 1-888-245-0625. They've generally got good people staffing the line. As long as you're calm and rational, plus you were rejected for a relatively minor infraction like "too many accounts" (because you've been reward hunting), you should have a decent shot. I was honest: There have been a lot of great rewards deals lately, but I was still using all of the cards and hadn't cancelled any. After a few minutes of hold time, I was approved.

8. How do you link your Rapid Rewards Account with your Chase account?
A: To speed the whole process up you should create a RR account before you sign up, the credit card application has a spot for your ID.
If you have already signed up for the credit card, try looking up your RR account number: http://www.southwest.com/account/...edUsername
If that doesn't work, Chase creates a RR account when you sign up, just call chase 1-800-248-4377 and they will provide you with the RR account number.

9. When does the 20% discount for the gift cards end?
A. 12/15/11 - You can still redeem 50,000 points for $500 worth of gift cards without the discount

10. When do I get the points?
A. Some people are reporting that they are getting their points a few days after statement closing, Others are reporting that they haven't, according to Chase it takes a few weeks before you get the points.

11. Is there a list of what gift cards one can get with the points?
A. https://www.southwest.com/rapidre...re-rewards > Explore Rewards (yellow button, half way down the page in the middle) > Gift Cards & Certificates (Cards are also listed below)

12. Do they actually send physical Amazon gift cards?
A. Yes, via USPS

Here is the list of gift cards offered, all gift cards are at least a $50 card for 5,000 points unless noted. Any points listed below are regular points price.

Sale is until December 15th, but if you're just signing up now. There's no way you'll make the date.

So let me get this straight. You can sign up for the CC, receive your rewards points (then redeem for an amazon gift card), and then cancel the card before ever paying the registration fee??? Sounds amazing. How much will this negatively affect one's credit score?

no. you cannot. annual fee is charged immediately.

The OP's insinuation that you can avoid the annual fee is misleading. The $69 is charged right away on activation, you can avoid a second yearly fee by cancelling before a year after activation. You may be able to get the first annual fee waived if you call and complain, but I haven't heard anyone getting it. Still a great deal, $600-$69 is still $531 free money, and that's the best kind of money there is.

Can someone please explain when I should cancel this credit card and how it affects credit score?
for example -
if I cancel immediately will it hurt more than if I cancel 3 years from now?
How many points will it lower my score?

Actually, the OP's assertion may have limited success for some. I received my points today and still have not been charged an annual fee yet. Should I cancel?

But you still have to wait for the card to come in the mail, activate it, and make a purchase before you are awarded with the points, right?

That is correct, I got my points before my first due date. My due date was Dec 24th, and I just got my points today, I'm guessing because the system still processed a statement for Nov 27th even though there was nothing due until December. When I called to activate they asked me if I would like to change the due date, which I did not.
