Walmart has a pretty good deal on 38 Special ammo. Looks to be the regular everyday price too.

Remington UMC 38 Special +P 125 gr. semi-jacketed hollow points, 100 count for $33.97. Box "ID" number is L38S2B.

I looked around online for other prices, and did find it maybe a bit cheaper elsewhere, but shipping really killed the online prices. Lowest I found was about $30. If you just wanted to pick up a few boxes for practice or even for a very cheap hollow point home defense round, can't really beat this price for a box of $100! Winchester sells 38 Special (without +P) FMJ's for the same price at walmart, just for comparison.

Just for those wondering, the +P means greater pressure than regular 38 special bullets. They just have more powder than the regular 38 special bullets. From what I've seen, MOST 38's can shoot this ammo, but you should definitely research your specific gun to make sure it can shoot the higher pressure bullets. (Thanks T-Roy!)

Also posted on here in another thread, walmart has Federal 40 S&W FMJ ammo, 100 ct box for $25.96. Great deal on that as well. Just bought 7 boxes recently Big Grin

I've shot a couple hundred of both 38 special and 40 S&W and have had no issues with either. Every one has made a bang nod Hope this helps! Good luck and keep it pointed down range Wink

FYI, if you want a case of 500, here is probably cheaper when accounting for tax (free shipping on cases): http://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-...ition.aspx

BTW, for +P JHP, these are awesome, but they wil cost ya! THere is a site somewhere that has them on clearance, just gotta find it again. http://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-...ition.aspx These are big for LEOs, very high field first shot stoppage rate, although the .357's have even better numbers Big Grin. Same for the .357 SIG, but those are too damn expensive.

Thanks for the post OP, I'm pretty sure that this is the normal price at Walmart. Also note that not all 38's are rated for +P ammo.

Yep, its the regular price. And you are correct about the +P ammo. It looks like most guns will handle it, but you should definitely check yours to make sure before you buy! Thanks!

Good find! I just needed 1 box so this worked out for me. Bought another one about 2 months ago, but I don't shoot this gun regularly so this box should last a while. I am going to be getting some of the Golden Sabers for my 40 S&W, those rock! Almost got BOGO at Bass Pro in Independence, MO last week because of a price mistake on the shelf tag. Manager wouldn't do it. Price was about $33 for a box of 25, but it was marked $33 for a box of 50 Smilie o well, maybe another day..

Stopped at two WalMarts, none in stock. Scored two boxes at the third WalMart I stopped at. $13 for 50 rounds (40 S&W), now that's a Slick Deal.

DOh, I woulda been ALL OVER THAT, ah well, maybe next time you will get em. If I find the site with the golden saber clearance (<$200 for 500 I think, I check ammo deals so much not sure, all blurs together), will post back.

Targetsportsusa is definitely a good place for ammo deals by the case, I have already purchased a few thousand rounds from them, fast shipping and excellent prices, expecially when they run their sales. I got Speer Lawman 9MM (115gr) case of 1000 for $210 shipped, great ammo, and not much more expensive than the bimetal nonreloadable stuff that most ranges won't even allow anymore because of the steel jacketed bullets (I reload, or at least I will be starting once xmas comes and I open my reloading kit Smilie).

Nice! Yea they were out of the 40 the first one I went to earlier. That's a hell of a deal. They told me that its not something they stock all the time so buy a lot of it. It's been there the past month though at 3 different Wally Worlds.. Just keep an eye out whenever you stop in!

I think it is expired, it was actually from Cabela's I think, and had to do with combining their coupons and cash back and their awesome sale price on this ammo that looks like it is over. You can always get a 9MM barrel for you xD (I have one too, great weapons, mine is 3" SC for CCW), which should help shoot more economically. I am going the same thing for my two sigs (P226 stainless and P229 Equinox), they are .40, but I am getting 9MM and 357 sig barrels for them to have more latitude on ammo I can fire through them. It is a nice thing to have pistols with just a 15 second field strip making it another caliber...

Regarding +P, I usually just purchase 357 mag wheel guns, so I can handle all three loads easily. My current and only right now is a S&W Model 19-6 2.5" snubbie, best CCW wheel gun I have ever had, factory with adjustable rear site! That is my ankle BUG, and with the .357's in it, it is pretty potent, I had to get a hogue grip on it cause after 10 rds of .357, my palms were bleeding from the cross hatching on the factory wood Smilie. Shoots like a cat cat with normal .38 though (like the cheap but great Federal American Eagle 158GR LRNs, I can get 50 of those for $8, bargain).

I run across great ammo deals all the time (slickguns, among many other places), I guess I should post them here, dunno why I never have.

I've got the XD 40 SC as well! Loving it so far.. Just noticed your a KC guy, me to! The 38 I have was my dads police gun for years that he gave me. He was a cop here in KC til the mid 90s. Good gun, but the XD is a bit more concealable and lighter. Might have to let ya know when I hit up a range around here, it's always nice going with someone to shoot. And start posting those deals!

Yea they often have the Remington 9mm 115gr JHP UMC 100 boxes. I forget what they charge, but it must be OK as I buy it. Smilie

For self defense ammo you might have to check out a gun store.
