Seagate 3tb Hard Drive only finding 349gb

BobbyP 15 10 November 30, 2011 at 06:52 PM
I bought 4 of these on black friday. I planned on opening them all up to place in a 4 system bay.... We'll they all installed fine... But when I was asked to reformat my only options were NTSC 349gb.... I can't figure out how to get my other 2.5TB?
I read somewhere that I could download Seagates Disc Wizard Program to properly format, but it just says error when I try.... Anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty pissed as I've already opened them are and it was a chore to get the cases off, so I can't return them....

Thanks for your help.

Anything larger than 2TB are recognized by windows differently and you will have to follow the instructions in the link posted by dhc. You also need a motherboard that supports 3TB drives too, I think.

I got one of the 3tb goflex drives, but decided to just use it as an external usb 3.0 drive. Seems to do quite well.

To build a raid array, you might use a separate enclosure. There were a couple from Newegg mentioned in recent hot deals.

Suggest you check these to see if 3tb drives will work. I would do some research to see if there are some others that might be preferable. I have not done raid yet and have only read a few comments about varieties/levels of raid

You might also look into other options. It might be as simple as using a Vista or Win7 install disk to partition and format the drives.

There may also be bios updates for your motherboard. Or perhaps you'll find a pci sata controller card will provide similar functionality to the external enclosure.
