Thread Details

Called yesterday to renew my $12.50 plan (as per this thread) and was told they could only offer it for 6 months (I got the impression they want to discontinue it), but they had a better deal for me: $9.99/month, unlimited US and Canada, ongoing, without contract. I did not ask, but I think this plan does not offer free international like Vonage World does or even free landline calling to those countries in Europe like the old Vonage plan did. Nevertheless, I took the offer since I am doing very little international calling.

So, if you are an existing customer, my advice is: call Vonage at 1-866-243-4357, and say you want to cancel because you heard about some other Voip service that is cheaper. And see what they can do fo you.

I just called today to get my $12.50 plan renewed (just like original post) and was told this 9.99 plan (no contract, never expires) was available because I was a long time customer. (I've been with Vonage since 2004) They told me this deal was only offered until 12/31/11.

Not sure if it really is because of my long standing, but they offered it to me without me asking - I hadn't read this post yet. (I came here to post it myself and found someone had beaten me to the punch.)

At any rate, you have to talk to the retention department - so tell them you will cancel unless you can get a better offer. Maybe they will offer it to you as well.

Works out double-good for me as I had 2 lines.

BTW, I asked about international calling and only US, Canada and Puerto Rico are covered. (no longer covers other countries)

No luck here. Pushed pretty hard, said I could find other options. Ended up with $12.50 for 6 months... will have to call again in 6 months.

Was worth a try!

Just got the 9.99 lifetime plan as well. The first operator could only give me 12.50 per month for 6 months. I asked for the retention dept--he didn't like that, but he transferred me. The retention dept did an "analysis" of my account and gave me the 9.99 plan lifetime. I've been a customer for over 4 years of Vonage...not sure if that has anything to do with getting the plan or not.

I just called to cancel and was offered vonage world plan with 500 world minutes (instead of unlimited) for $19.99/month. I was told it is a holiday special offer with a few slots available. Saves me $6/month compared to current plan and 500 world minutes is plenty for me.

Bump for the New Year - just saw this, called in and requested to cancel, immediately got the $9.99/month lifetime for both my lines. Great deal. I've been with Vonage for almost 8 years and never had any major issues.

Not to thread cr@p but to save money ObiHai with google talk is a much better option. I know you need E911 - there is a way to get it working, just google and you will find the solution. Overall its much much cheaper.

gee I use to have vonage but got tired of paying their high rates with little call blocking.
signed up with voipo for 2 years for less than 200. and it has a lot of call blocking options, voicemail and other features that vonage did not have and was way cheaper and solid as a rock on my high speed cable. check them out it is cheaper and better and ported my number no hassle.
