HP employees will have a chance to purchase a refurbished HP TouchPad via eBay before the sale is announced to the general public. Specifically, the TouchPads will be offered through one of HP's newest marketplaces for close-out and refurbished HP products, the new HP eBay Store <http://stores.ebay.com/hewlettpackard> .
look around
This product will NOT be available through any other HP stores, such as the Home & Home Office store, Small & Medium Business store, HP EPP or the HP Business Outlet. PLEASE DO NOT CALL ANY OF THESE CALL CENTERS BECAUSE IT DISRUPTS REGULAR SALES ACTIVITIES AND THEY'RE UNABLE TO PROCESS AN ORDER FOR THE TOUCHPADS ANYWAY.

In an effort to give HP employees first chance at a very limited supply of refurbished TouchPads, there will be a short delay between when the product is posted live for sale on eBay and when the general public is notified of the sale.

Refurbished HP TouchPads, both 16GB and 32GB versions, will be posted for sale through the HP eBay store at: 6:00 p.m. (Central Time), Sunday, December 11th. If you are interested in purchasing a refurbished TouchPad, please make yourself a reminder to log-on to eBay a few minutes before the sale starts to make your purchase.

The TouchPads will be available for sale here (under "Laptops"):

Important information about this sale:

.

There will be both 16GB and 32GB versions available, selling at a fixed price of $99 and $149 respectively.while supplies last.

.

There is also an optional 3-piece Accessory bundle with a Case, Charging Dock & Wireless Keyboard for $79 (est. value $199.97).

.

Purchases must be made through the HP eBay store via PayPal only. If you do not have eBay or PayPal accounts, create your accounts before the sale begins to avoid delays.

.

The product offer will be announced to the general public on Monday morning and is expected to sell-out quickly thereafter, so don't delay.

.

There will be a limit of two (2) TouchPad SKUs per eBay member, sold on a first come, first served basis.

.

This sale is not associated with any HP-sponsored employee purchase program and there are no additional discounts for HP employees off the HP eBay store price.

.

All sales are final. There are no returns unless product arrives defective.

.

The refurbished TouchPad product comes with a 90-day limited warranty.

Going live:
6:00 p.m. (Central Time), Sunday, December 11th.

Use code SHOPHP10NOW to save $10 with your paypal checkout (coupon will work for more than $50)
I got that code in an email from Paypal too. I wondered if it would work, but still not sure.

I don't know if I should risk the seconds it takes to find out during crunch time! Actually maybe I will try to check out with something else with the code now.

Anyone going to get the bundle along with this? Is the bundle a good deal?

i am not trying to be offensive or putting you on the spot; but i am very confused with your comments; maybe you can shed some light.

I guess the overall consensus of reviews from the majority of IT sites were also wrong?
sure it can happen but i haven't heard of an incident; can you provide an example?

I owned the TP and it wasn't too bad. However, when considering the overall package (device + OS + support + future + HP owning it) there are much better alternatives.
on what standard did you base your consideration on, cost/value ratio? how about factoring the cost for consumers in comparison to other tablets?

Quote from PotmeetKettle View Post :
Fanboys of defunct devices are nothing new, but to suggest that a device that failed epically can match the number #1 tablet, that even leaves even #2 in the dust, is ridiculous.
which one is #2? isn't it ridiculous to compare touchpad with other devices entirely b/c other tablets work right out of the box but touchpad with android is still in development?

Like I said earlier, simple unbiased generic tests illustrate the lack of performance of the device. Then you also have the actual manufacturer themselves, who stated it was not up to par.
i've seen/read quite a bit about that touchpads can perform just as well in games & apps, but sounds like you discredit them entirely

Just tried it through HP's ebay store to buy a laptop and the code didn't work. In the email it says exclusions apply but it doesn't say what.

Don;t get me wrong, I liked the device at $99. However, without support and any actual updates, and with fully-supported android devices rapidly dropping in price, it's not for me.
This. Half the reason the touchpad deal was so hot, was because of the possibility of porting android onto it. At the time 10 inch android tablets were fairly expensive. Nowadays, its possible to snatch a new acer iconia / asus transformer or a refurbished xoom / galaxy tab for around $250.

No it's due to the fact that nobody is supporting or creating apps for the platform and device.

To bad the actual manufacturer decided to scrap the entire line, because it apparently worked so well. I guess the overall consensus of reviews from the majority of IT sites were also wrong?

There are two reasons, and two reasons only, the iPad 2 is ahead of the Touchpad (or any other high end tablet, for that matter): marketing and app support. Since I don't care about gimmicky games of the week, or being able to blend in at Starbucks, but do care about being able to use my devices for whatever I want, however I want, I much prefer the Touchpad.

I read books on it, just like the iPad. I watch movies on it, just like the iPad. I browse the web on it, just like the iPad. I write on it, just like the iPad. I manage e-mail and carry out Skype video calls, just like the iPad. I play games on it, just like the iPad. I overclock it, tweak it, install whatever I want on it, multitask on it, and use Flash on it just like the, uh, oops, nevermind! I've edited Wordpress blogs on it and remotely managed routers on it without a hitch.

You don't know me, so don't presume to call me a fanboy. I use devices which cater to my interests and likes. I knew nothing about the Touchpad before I picked it up for $149, and have been almost universally pleased with it since, save for a few hitches here and there which have been mostly resolved by homebrew patches (something not possible to do natively on the iPad, it is worth noting).

I would have bought one over an iPad 2 at $500 simply for those reasons, and it has nothing to do with brand loyalty (indeed, the Touchpad is the only HP product I own). At $99/$150 it's the best tablet, bar none, without question. I really don't care what reviewers have to say too much because what matters to me is how well something works for me, not how well it manages to be an Apple duplicate.

If it bothers you that it doesn't measure up as well on a few synthetic benchmarks, well, so be it. As far as practical, every day use is concerned, I'm rather happy with mine. If you want to call me a fanboy for that, be my guest. Meanwhile, I'll be doing everything on my tablet that you do on yours, only for 1/5 to 1/3 the price.

How many sheep are going to say this?
Its pretty obvious that there will be no software support. If apps are important to you (which they are for me) port Android onto it. Very simple.

Btw if there are much better deals out there, find me a a 10'' tablet with a 1.2ghz processor and IPS screen for under 200, let alone under 100.

HP’s $99 TouchPad Firesale Is Finally Back
The time's come, cheapasses: HP's $99 TouchPad firesale is about to make its triumphant return. Oh my god I've waited so long for this.

At 7:00 PM Eastern on December 11th, HP's eBay store is going to have the next and maybe last cache of cheap TouchPads. $99 16GB models and $150 32GB models will both be up for grabs. That's great! Here's the catch: The units are refurbished, not new—which isn't a bad thing, necessarily!—and all sales are final. But like, who's going to try to return a $99 TouchPad anyway?

Since the original cheapo stampede over the first TouchPad firesale, the Kindle Fire's shown up with its $200 pricepoint, and the PlayBook dropped to that price as well—and maybe even further soon. But the TouchPad is still the only full-sized tablet to get the here-take-it-please-oh-god prices, and webOS has gotten a few upgrades while HP shuffles its feet over what to do with the mobile OS. So basically, it's still a totally awesome deal and you should get one if you can.
