HP employees will have a chance to purchase a refurbished HP TouchPad via eBay before the sale is announced to the general public. Specifically, the TouchPads will be offered through one of HP's newest marketplaces for close-out and refurbished HP products, the new HP eBay Store <> .
look around
This product will NOT be available through any other HP stores, such as the Home & Home Office store, Small & Medium Business store, HP EPP or the HP Business Outlet. PLEASE DO NOT CALL ANY OF THESE CALL CENTERS BECAUSE IT DISRUPTS REGULAR SALES ACTIVITIES AND THEY'RE UNABLE TO PROCESS AN ORDER FOR THE TOUCHPADS ANYWAY.

In an effort to give HP employees first chance at a very limited supply of refurbished TouchPads, there will be a short delay between when the product is posted live for sale on eBay and when the general public is notified of the sale.

Refurbished HP TouchPads, both 16GB and 32GB versions, will be posted for sale through the HP eBay store at: 6:00 p.m. (Central Time), Sunday, December 11th. If you are interested in purchasing a refurbished TouchPad, please make yourself a reminder to log-on to eBay a few minutes before the sale starts to make your purchase.

The TouchPads will be available for sale here (under "Laptops"): <>

Important information about this sale:

There will be both 16GB and 32GB versions available, selling at a fixed price of $99 and $149 respectively.while supplies last.

There is also an optional 3-piece Accessory bundle with a Case, Charging Dock & Wireless Keyboard for $79 (est. value $199.97).

Purchases must be made through the HP eBay store via PayPal only. If you do not have eBay or PayPal accounts, create your accounts before the sale begins to avoid delays.

The product offer will be announced to the general public on Monday morning and is expected to sell-out quickly thereafter, so don't delay.

There will be a limit of two (2) TouchPad SKUs per eBay member, sold on a first come, first served basis.

This sale is not associated with any HP-sponsored employee purchase program and there are no additional discounts for HP employees off the HP eBay store price.

All sales are final. There are no returns unless product arrives defective.

The refurbished TouchPad product comes with a 90-day limited warranty.

Going live:
6:00 p.m. (Central Time), Sunday, December 11th.

I was surprised at it myself. I bought mine during the firesale for $150. I would not pay $300+ for this device, like the 32's are going for on eBay, I would look to something else. But for the price I paid, it's perfect.

I wouldn't buy a Playbook for $150, I'll say that. That thing seems more useless than a Touchpad with WebOS.
most people dont come to this site dont root phones dont refresh all the time to see if there is deal. most of the people are flat out stupid and will just buy buy buy on urge.

EXACTLY you proved my point completely. Companies really don't give a damn about anyone that doesn't have a title starting with VP. Why should you have any loyalty at ALL to a company like that? Heck, I'm surprised there weren't thousands of posts at the same time by people that care more about Slickdeals than their own company. I know I don't care about my company. Times change man, there is no company loyalty in America any more. That's why we have sites like this and we stick with them as a community.

That's also why people that discount sharing on Slickdeals should just be banned. If you don't promote community sharing, then you don't belong here.
I think the point of the original comment was that this information shouldn't have been posted in the first place as it was not meant for non-employees, and explicitly stated that it was an internal communication.

Funny though that your comments are so elitist towards SD, but you bash those who have an opposing opinion. It's really a moot point though -- no sense in calling for bans on other users.

Whitman is going to announce what they plan to do with WebOS sometime next week (according to the article you posted), but it doesn't say anything about killing WebOS (it may be wishful thinking, but I think they should be able to find a buyer for the operating system)
Amazon may be considering it -

I got a 32gb and a 16gb during the fire sale. I put Android on both and sold off the 32gb on craigslist for 170 (including thousands of cases that I had bought since getting the touchpad). I sold it off because I did not find any use for such a heavy tablet. The other touchpad is still at home - for wife.
I'm really not following this practice of buying things and then reselling them. I usually conduct a fair amount of research before I buy electronics, then use them, but not resell.

Will I be able to purchase this via the ebay app?
Being a general listing, I think there should be no problem buying it via its own app.

No thanks. Had one, and ended up getting rid of it.
Good luck to all of those who are still trying to get one though.
Any particular reason for getting rid of it?

I really don't understand why anyone would buy this instead of a fire, nook tablet, iconia, transformer or a playbook.

The materials are cheap, os not supported and kind of slow.
How about a bigger display? Honestly, I'd tried the Fire and returned it because found its screen to be way too small for PDF's, and I think it'll be the same for most 7" tablets. You really have to pinch in every single page. I remember it wasn't so on iPads at all. I'd buy this over any any other 7", 8" or 9" tablet.

How good are these refurbished ones with 90-day warranty?
Eh, just like any other product with 90-day warranty?

Sorry again for the multi-quotes.

Out of curiosity, assuming you're an HP employee, why would you post this here and ruin your own chances of getting one early? Confused

I agree CM7 is just a terrible experience, I uninstalled it and went back to pure webOS, much nicer and stabler.
i'm not a fan of Android, or Android on the TP... i still believe in terms of OS (not Apps quantity), WebOS is head and shoulders above Android.
but, come on...

are you really ripping on an Alpha release of custom, open source, software??? REALLY???
from their site

The HP Touchpad is still very ALPHA and as such, most of it isn’t working yet. Check our fourms out for latest info and release builds.
people have no idea what an Alpha is.

the question is, now that this has leaked here, will HP decide to actually list at 3pm CST and tell employees to check then while SDers keep thinking 6pm is the time.
Chances are slim to none.

lol at Meg Whitman, now HP CEO, using her former company to blow out the last few remaining Touchpads.
Good point. HP does not need to sell them through ebay they can just put it out there (and it would make it to slickdeals the same) and everyone would buy them from HP and they would avoid paying comission to ebay... something is fishy here

The fire has better hardware, is faster and is built on Android. your the toll. The Touchpad is made of cheap material. FACT.
The problem with the Fire for me is that I use my Touchpad and/or Nook Color to watch videos while travelling and the 5GB (give or take usable storage on the Fire) is too low for me. I cannot reliably rely on the cloud because there is no/expensive wireless on planes and bandwidth can be at a real premium in hotels. I need at least 16GB of storage so the Fire doesn't cut it for me.

I do love my Touchpad which still runs Webos but it is heavy. Around the house I find myself using the Nook Color with CM7 more because of its light weight and size. I generally prefer to travel with the Touchpad because even though it is heavier it does a better job of playing videos and the built in speakers are MUCH better than the Nook if you don't want to use headphones. My Touchpad did come from the factory with a defective USB cord which doesn't say much about their quality control but otherwise has been flawless.

i have to say that i really like the webos and i agree, if you want it JUST for android, do yourself a favor and buy an android, they are creeping down in price.....not saying i dont like the touchpad but i think if people give webos a fair shot, its really nice.
This is absolutely true. Unless you enjoy hacking, if you want to run Android, buy an Android tablet. The HP Touchpad is an elegant product but will always be a bastardized product in terms of Android support.

The reason Android upgrades take so long is that each manufacturer has to supply the drivers and custom software for their device. The Android OS does not have a built in driver database like Windows does. If it did, the OS would balloon and be too large for the limited resources of a tablet.

Cyanogen has done an admirable job but don't expect to install the CM7 Alpha and have seamless functionality.

Probably because they already have one or don't need one or don't care if someone else gets one sooner. Tons of reasons.

Also, for those who day they are cheap or will be DOA, I don't see any facts backing up those statements. Just sayin....

These are great products and too bad HP has decided to make them end of life. Hopefully that decision will be reversed with the new HP management, but don't hold your breath. HP is known for quality products, however, these are thru an acquisition, but hopefully HP acquires great companies too. Let the sale begin and hope everyone is able to get a great christmas present!!!!

I don't get why so many people hate the Touchpad, and I also don't get why they are posting in this thread.... That's interesting.

Personally I had a gen1 iPad and sold it on Craiglist because of the price difference between the two. I don't mind WebOS, in fact I rather like it.
