Deal Details

For those who purchased a Verizon smartphone after the unlimited data ended, you can still get unlimited data by calling *611 and asking them to add unlimited MHS. A 4G phone is required. You may have to be persistent, and it may take several calls, but I was able to do it with one call. A "perk" of adding unlimited MHS is that you will be pushed to unlimited data as well, according to the rep I talked to. I checked online, and sure enough, my friend's account that I was trying it on had unlimited data and unlimited MHS. If at a future time, you feel you do not need MHS, you can cancel mhs (you can do it online) and it has been reported that you still keep unlimited data.

When i talked to the rep, at first, he was trying to get me to switch to a data plan that had data and mhs. This is not what you want, you want to have the mhs as a feature addon.

ymmv of course on these types of promos.

edit: mhs = mobile hot spot $30/mo addon feature. as said before, you can remove it any time and your unlimited data should remain.
The $30 is for the month, if, say you use it for 15 days, then it will be prorated to $15 and so on.

Edit looks like some are able to do it with 3G phones as well, unlimited data but 2gb mhs.

I got it! Told the lady that I wanted it separate even though it would cost more. Since I may want to cancel hotspot in a few months and keep the 4GB twice the data promotion. She said that was a good idea.

*Edit: I have a 4G Droid Charge Phone*

I called *611 from my Verizon phone. Hit option 4. Said "Add feature" to the auto-voice. When transferred and the CSR answered, I explained I was interested in adding a new feature to my phone. She asked which one. I said, "I want to add the Mobile Hotspot feature. I recently purchased a new tablet and want to use the wifi connection through my phone". (Don't say "MHS". Use the full term, "Mobile Hot Spot".)

She offered me the unlimited MHS feature immediately. She even explained the options of removing the MHS feature at any time, and it would give me unlimited data. I thanked her, went online to check out the changes.

Main Page Data Used summary shows : 385.56MB of Unlimited (Woowho!) woot

Under "My Data Plan" it now shows "Unlimited $29.99"
Under Features I have the MHS for an additional $30.

I will be keeping this on my account for a few weeks. It's worth it to pay $30 extra one month if it lets me keep unlimited data in the future. No need to get greedy and taking the chance of ruining this opportunity.

If others follow these simple steps you may have better luck. Do not ask for "unlimited data". Most CSR's will want to help you out, but if you trigger their "Hey... he's trying to pull something shady off" radar, you'll get stonewalled.

Good luck, and let us all hope this sticks.

Anyone try this with more than one phone on your plan? I'd want to do this for my wife's and my phone.

Perhaps you are looking for a scapegoat since you couldn't get in? I simply asked about adding a MHS and getting unlimited data. They already knew why I am asking about it, since the spike of people asking about it. So back the ***** off!
Considering I'm not a Verizon customer, it's kind of hard to get in on this regardless, so I don't have a reason to be upset about not getting in on it. From your later posts, it seems YOU were the one who was upset about getting rejected.

On the phone with them again......it might just be 4g phones after all
Wait...I thought you weren't going to do this because it was fraud.

well, seemed to work after about 20 attempts. Finally got a rep that knew what is going on. They have a promo for 4g phones where you can get the unlimited hot spot. This chaged my data plan to unlimited. Not sure what will happend after I take the hotspot off. Thanks to the OP.

To all the crybabies on here, you really can't bash anyone for calling when the deal is over the phone in the first place and you are talking about an existing account that you are already paying through the roof for.
Hmm...so you went ahead and committed fraud, even after you bashed others for taking part in this fraudulent activity.

Thanks for providing my laugh of the day.

Hey, get a life dude!!!!!
I did say I am only qouting what the rep told me. Also the misunderstanding is when you ask for MHS, they try to get it as a bundle. This actually happened to me at first and it shows under the data plan as 6gb data and mhs. So yeah, if anybody would get it to say unlimited data and mhs, they don't have such package and it would infact probably be only achieved by some fraud or intentional mistake.

However, this deal is when you add MHS as a feature, which is different than if it is part of data bundle package.

I take you wouldn't have a clue though since you wouldn't be able to access a Verizon account online to actually view the difference then!!!

given the right rep who knows what it is that we are looking for it should work. The one who hooked me up only caught on after I said it is for a 4g device.

I must have gotten lucky cause the rep I talked to was able to help me with zero issues. I just said I was trying to add the MHS online and was told to call CS. then he said that I'm eligible for the unlimited data and switched both our lines over.

I'm thinking of telling a family member about this. Are we sure now that it's only 4G phones and the iPhone? He has a Droid X2 which is not 4G (I believe). So if it's only 4G phones I won't bother letting him know.

Thanks OP for positing this deal. Just want to share my experience.

I got a new Iphone 4s 2 days ago and was on a 300MB data plan. Last night I called in to add "3G Mobile Hotspot" to my plan and was told it's $20 for 2GB data through hotspot. I asked if they have unlimited data version of it, she said no. So I took it.

Then I checked online, my data plan was already automatically changed to unlimited and the Moble Hotspot was added as she said. After getting online with the hotspot for a few minutes, I canceled it online and the data plan still remains unlimited. Hopefully it stays!
