Preserve Fresh Install of Windows XP SP3 with updates onto DVD or USB
I just wiped my mom's laptop which had tons of malware (probably from all of the porn she looks at) and installed XP with Service Pack 3 and all 10,000 updates from Windowsupdate.com. It's perfect now, but I imagine she'll visit some stupid site at some point and infect the damn thing again.I live in another state - so it's not so easy for me to perform maintenance on her computer. She doesn't store anything on her computer, so it's fine to just have her wipe the drive and do a fresh install. My question is: How do I preserve this fresh installation so she (or my retarded brother) can easily reinstall it in the future. The contents of the hard drive should fit onto a DVD or USB drive. Many thanks for the help! Last edited by MacFrugal; 12-07-2011 at 01:47 PM.. |

Acronis True image home. I would also suggest Secunia PSI to help keep the non windows things updated (Assuming you have windows updates running automatically) Chrome browser (Updates automatically in the background including adobe flash) LogmeIn Free to get in and run scans etc for her, as needed. Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

I actually used #4 in couple cases but you need to have 4GB ram
2 for OS and 2 for VM 1. use norton or acronics (free edition) for backup/restore http://support.wdc.com/product/do...p?swid=119 they have similar options for seagate and others ,,, 2. since she doesn;t have any data, you can use live cd to boot : http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download 3. really fast puppy linux : http://puppylinux.org/main/New%20...0Puppy 4. install vm software, load vm, create snapshot and set to revert on shutdown; Last edited by dude2000; 12-07-2011 at 02:57 PM.. |
