Hp Touchpad touch screen not working!

NoTanks52 35 38 December 9, 2011 at 06:50 AM
As the title states, I tried to use my touchpad this morning but when i brought it out of standby where it asks for your pin, i attempted to touch the numbers on the screen but nothing works. This got me worried so I restarted the touchpad by holding powerbutton + volume down button + center button for about 15 seconds.

After restarting it still does the same thing! It's as if the screen is locked or frozen and isnt picking up my touch. It's weird because if i try touching the very corners of the screen it seems like it picks up the touch because you see that waterdrop animation like it normally would do but doesnt work right anywhere else on the screen.

I have never dropped it and the screen has no scratches on it. Is this a known hardware defect? Or is there another explanation or fix for this? I hope one of you slickdealers out there can help me Confused

I haven't heard of it happening to anyone yet.
Generally speaking, the symptoms you have, indicate hardware failure and not software, but before returning it there are two things to try.
One is to post the problem as you have here, on precentral.net.
The other is to doctor it to OEM factory settings, on the off chance that it is a software problem.
Do you know how to do that?

Hey Rocky, thanks for the prompt response. I haven't tried resetting the touchpad back to factory settings yet, but it looks like I may need to. Do you know how to do this without being able to interact with the screen? Thanks!

Yes.
Download webosdoctor (search Google for download link) and run it on your computer, then when asked to, hook up your TP by USB and continue to follow the instructions 'till it's done.
If you still can't manipulate it by touch, then it would be time to return it to HP for repair or replacement.

I am having same issue with TP screen. One corner registers a signal but nothing else. I have replaced the digitizer with a known working one.

Any ideas?
