The wife wants a kindle for christmas, but I've never seen one in person before so I have some questions, I hope someone can help me out with.
I think the Kindle Touch is the one to get...now I just need to figure out - ads or no ads.
Few questions about how the ads work
1. I read that it shows when the kindle is not in use. True?
So while she is reading the book, there are no ads on the page?
2. If the ads only show up when the Kindle is not in use....does that mean the kindle is on 24 hours a day?
So that means, big drain on the battery then....?
The Kindle touch is supposed to last 2 months, but thats 30 minutes a day.
If its on 24 hours a day, then it will only last like 1 day instead of 60 days.
1) Ads show up when you shut the kindle off. They do not appear at all when you are reading, although there is sometimes a small banner at the bottom of the home page where your collection shows up. FWIW the ads are usually quite good and often offer coupon codes. I got one the other day for $15 off $30 worth of fresh flowers and I routinely see coupon codes for $5 off $10 coupons good for anything on Amazon.
2) The battery on the kindle is not used when stuff is displayed. It only uses the battery when you change from one page to the next. That's one reason why the battery lasts so long. I charge my kindle once every other week or so and I use it every day.
as hard as i try i couldnt ever imagine having that many wieners go inside me at the same time
We've already established my pooping is strain-free
Even with the other Kindle version, you have screen savers that are dead authors. In my opinion, that wouldn't sway me either way. The only other ad you see is one on the main page at the very bottom. In all, the ads are non-intrusive. Battery life is no different between Kindle with special offers or without. I charge my Kindle every couple weeks or so, but I also use the lighted cover that runs off the Kindle battery and that's why I charge it so frequently. The lighted cover is really nice, though.
Although the special offers are not as good as they once were, they still prove to be good money savers. I don't see a reason to not get them.
Good things fall apart so better things can fall together
One more thing of note is that you turn pages by swiping your finger with the touch. All about preference but some prefer the dedicated page buttons. Also may be able to find the older model a bit cheaper.
its just a picture that shows when its off..like a screen saver. i charge my battery maybe once every 2 weeks now. at first i only needed to charge once a month. and u only charge for 30 minutes. dont worry one bit about the battery.
i my kindle
I am kicking around the idea of getting one for my wife. Where do you get the books? Do they all have to be bought?
They have a lot of free books for Kindle. Amazon has a Kindle forum where someone invariably posts what new free books of the day are out there too. The past few days Amazon allowed us to get over 1000 books from independent authors for free so they could make room on their lists for new independent books. Here's todays newest listing: http://us.kinlib.com/new/5548/
