Perfect timing for those who got the Leap Pad yesterday from amazon. They receive them tomorrow, just in time to set it up and then wrap it. Thanks

stupid question: I already have the leapfrog explorer but I don't want to open up the leappad (already wrapped!) If I download it to the explorer, will it automatically transfer to the leappad once I connect that? I assume that I will be able to share the software between 2 devices?
It won't transfer. I bought one of each and when I set them up, any apps I PAID for did show up in the software for transfer. But anything I got FREE did not. i.e., alphabet soup and the apps you get to pick free when you set up your leappad/explorer.

I was hoping to pick two different games for my pick-one-free apps for each system and then put them on the other one, but apparently if you don't actually pay for them, they don't sit on your system to share. Bummer Frown

So for everyone giving this as a Christmas gift you are SOL, thanks leapfrog!
Not really....I managed to restore the box to look like it has not been opened.
I used a photograph I had of the giftee to create a profile with a picture attached.
I can always delete the connect software from the PC I used.

I just bought and setup 2 LeapPads. Their support Q&A says you can share an app on 2 devices. I've been trying for hours to do just that and it's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE! Of course, LeapFrog support is impossible to get. I love the LeapPad products but hate being mislead.

It says to go to the leappad profile that you want it to be on, then go into 'on this leappad' and check the one you now want on the other one. That's rediculous. It's only showing the apps that are already on that existing one, not the app that's on the other profile.

Anybody able to do it with 2 devices?

Can I download an app or Leaplet to more than one LeapPad or Leapster Explorer handheld?
Yes, learning apps or Leaplets purchased in the App Center or Leaplet Store can be saved to 2 LeapPads or Leapster Explorers at a time (or one of each). To download an app to a second device:
1. From the LeapFrog Connect home page, choose a player name on the Leapster Explorer or LeapPad that you want to save the learning app to.
2. Click the On This LeapPad or On This Leapster Explorer tab.
3. Check the box next to the learning app that you want to save to your device.
4. Turn on your LeapPad or Leapster Explorer and connect it with the included USB cable.
5. Wait while the app syncs to your device You’ll know when syncing is complete when you see “Sync complete”.

Like I said a couple posts up, it has to be apps you've actually paid for and downloaded. The ones Leapfrog lets you choose for free are not included.

For instance, if you pick the free Train game on one and the free Toothbrushing game on the other, you won't be able to share those. But if you purchase and download, say, Dora, then Dora will show up in both lists.

ETA: It took me awhile to figure this out too. Just wanted to add that so you don't feel dumb! Smilie I kept trying and they weren't showing up, but then after I actually bought a couple with my app center cards, the ones I purchased WERE in the list.

Thank you so much for clarifying that! Personally, I think that's a little unfair from LeapFrog. If I would have known that rule, I wouldn't have chosen separate apps as the 'free app'. Now I'm going to get constant fighting at home of the two units not being identical. Again, thank you so much for clarifying the rule.

My kids don't have much interest in Alphabet Stew, but it's definitely worth it to set up your system early. We tried for over 30 minutes last night just to connect to the "Leap World" kids play area, but the server was too busy. We finally gave up. And if that's how busy it is many days before Christmas, it's going to be nutty soon!

Given that it takes 30-40 minutes to activate, it seems to make sense to do it in advance. That way your kid can immediately start playing on Christmas morning. With that said, the site appears to be down right now as I downloaded the connect software earlier, but unable to access the site from my other pc.

Sigh.

If you don't miss this don't feel too bad. This game is free quite often (when I saw this thread I assumed it was Alphabet Stew). Game is meh. 4yo played it once and has not gone back to it in 6 months. In no way trying to thread crap (I will rep the OP) as it is a great deal for a free game, just saying don't go too far out of your way to unwrap and rush ship things to get this particular freebie.

waveI setup my Leap Pad tonight to have it ready for Christmas. There is an issue where the games will not sync when you install the software from the CD. The problem is with the software provided on the CD, DO NOT INSTALL IT, is it out of date. Download the Leap Pad Connect software from their website for your version of hardware, you will have much better sucess.

Also for XP users(IE especailly), make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash installed as it will make you disable virus and update etc etc and cause a bunch of unecessary trouble shooting.

Thank heavens I did not have to deal with all this nonsense xmas morning, hope I saved you some headache too,!!!

Big Thanks to OP also!!!wave

I am not thrilled about having to set these things up. I bought 3 of them for my kids and a Kindle for the oldest. I think I'll just let my husband figure it out tonight...maybe we should have bought 3DS systems instead.
