Is this the set that was removed from the NA market that I read about? Something about this being the same as the 55LW9500 but with 3D disabled.

Judging by the the model number and price, this appears to be the same 55LV9500 sold by HSN back in August.

It has only ever been seen at HSN in the US, and there are many happy owners (especially at this price)

Some pros:
* It's sold as a 2D-only television, but 3D can be enabled easily in the service menu and it's compatible with LG's AG-S250 active shutter glasses.
* It's a full-array backlit unit with local dimming, and it has 288 individual dimming zones. Compare that to LG's flagship 55LW9800 which only has 96 zones.
* It has a built-in DVR (also enabled through the service menu) that can be used for over-the-air TV -- just add a portable USB harddrive
* At $1399, this is even $100 cheaper than a bunch of us paid at HSN back in August.

Some cons:
* It's extremely reflective. It's covered in a sheet of plexiglass.
* Some people notice problems with light bleed around the edges (perhaps known as "flashlighting"). However, these problems are only visible when the local dimming is turned completely off and disappear when the dimming feature is engaged.
* As with all local dimmers, there is some amount of blooming or haloing.
* Because of its limited availability, you won't find any professional reviews [1] (or any information at all outside of the links I've posted).

Definitely a steal considering the bleak full-array, local dimming market that currently exists.

This is an amazing set. Other than the reflective screen, I love this set. Easy to enable 3d (active) and the DVR function (though it is pretty limited in what it can do). This is a great deal for what was supposed to be LG's top of the line set this year before they decided to switch to passive 3D for their sets.

a DVR function in a TV? That's nifty. I'd be curious to hear more about it. It will record shows to a USB drive? What format? Are the files then viewable elsewhere?

This is a great tv. I bought it from HSN back in August and have been using it since getting it. Amazing black levels for an LCD/LED, best I have seen yet! 3d is great too once activated. I am also using it to stream mkv files from my NAS connected to my router! Works great!

I was really trying to hold out for HSN to get more of these in stock but after waiting for months I bought the 55LW6500 for $1350 that I am totaly satisfied with. It is 240HZ which after having for over 3 months would have been content with 120HZ, Even for gaming with COD MW3 and Battlefield 3. I was cautious because lots of reviewers were saying their TV arrived with the screen cracked or shattered and were long waiting for a replacement and didn't know when they would be back in stock if at all. I have a big skylight in my living room that either the sun or the moon is shining through so I prefered a matt screen. Also prefer passive As I got 10 pairs of glasses. Add the price of lets say 4 pair of active glasses for a small family too.

Just to clarify, when you activate the 3D, is it passive or active? If it is active, do you need a transmitter or is it built in?
