Of course those who make $100,000 pay the same individual cap gains tax as someone who earns $1,000,000. I'm not seeing the absurdity of that. Personal income is not at all relevant to cap gains so I'm not sure why you want to suggest that there's some absurdity associated with the above example. It seems your problem is flat rate taxes that lack the progressivity you want. But please explain why individuals should be taxed differently for property taxes, cap gains taxes, sales taxes, other use/sin taxes simply because of differences in income...again, it appears that you're demanding that people who make more be hit with higher tax rates on all taxes simply because, well, we can. Not because there's a compelling case to be made for progressivity on these other taxes. |
