Laid off and expecting first child
Hi all,
Sorry for the rant, but thanks to anyone who takes the time.
This past March, I was married on the 18th, and laid off on the 23rd...5 days into my supposed "honeymoon". Now to make things even more dire, we are expecting our first child on March 10, 2012. My wife is a kindergarten teacher of 9 years, and she works so hard, I feel horrible that she is going through this.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions as to any ways we can
A. Save on our expenses
B. Aid/Programs, anything for when the baby comes that we could qualify for (or now for that matter)
C. Any particular companies (credit cards, utilities, etc.) that are generally understanding and willing to negotiate due to unforeseen circumstances?\
D. Any suggestions on any particular fields, jobs, or just general suggestions on how I can more effectively seek and ultimately find work?
A little background:
I have a finance degree, and seven years of back office, client service experience with two investment advisers. In June of 2010, after discussing with my then fiance, I left my steady paying, full benefit job of 6 years for the potential of having increased responsibility and growth. The company was just a brand new RIA who had recently branched out on his own, and was not as financially stable as perhaps what was presented to me prior to accepting the position. Bottom line, it was my decision, and I took the risk and I am the one responsible for whatever the outcome.
I am desperate to find ANY type of work. I've always been a dedicated, hard working, loyal employee. I find I am not marketable for just any random job like bartender/waiting tables because I keep being told they can't hire me knowing I will leave when I find another job in my field. On the other hand, I am having trouble finding other jobs that I know I am more than capable of, but have no specific experience.
Thanks you SO much for reading and any feedback is graciously appreciated. I know we all have our own issues, and things can always be worse, I wish everyone all the best in their struggles as well and a very Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!
