Deal Details

Since the 35% SquareTrade coupon thread is generating so much excitement, and I noticed many people begging for coupons in that thread are looking to warranty TV's, I thought I'd post my own thread to help SDers get a BETTER SquareTrade TV Warranty for CHEAPER (even after the 35% coupon)!

Depending on the price of the TV, it MAY be a better deal to buy your SquareTrade TV Warranty from COSTCO or COSTCO.COM (instead of Squaretrade.com directly):

TV's under $500: $29.99
TV's $500 - $1,000: $59.99
TV's over $1,000: $99.99

For those prices you get 3 years AND your SquareTrade warranty DOESN'T begin until AFTER your manufacturer's warranty runs out as opposed to running parallel like when you purchase on SquareTrade.com. Thus, your TV will have 1 yr manufacturer's warranty (typically) + 3 years SquareTrade warranty = 4 years warranty.

If you buy your TV from Costco, you get 1 year from Costco free AND your SquareTrade warranty DOESN'T begin until AFTER that coverage ends. Thus, your TV will have 1 yr manufacturer's warranty (typically) + 1 year Costco extended warranty + 3 years SquareTrade warranty = 5 years warranty.

In comparison, buying TV warranties directly from SquareTrade will give you less years (only 3 years total since warranties run parallel to manufacturer's warranty), and typically are more expensive (especially if your TV is $1,000 or more).

3 Years (For TVs Under $500) [costco.com]

3 Years (For TVs: $500 to $1,000) [costco.com]

3 Years (For TVs Over $1,000) [costco.com]

NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY YOUR TV FROM COSTCO TO GET THIS WARRANTY!

[Televisions]
Note that in order to be eligible for the Costco-Squaretrade warranty you need to purchase it within 60 (SIXTY) days of your item purchase.

Through Squaretrade directly you have up to 90 (NINETY) days after the item purchase to get their extended warranty.

Wish I had a CostCo membership for this...we have Sams. This is a great deal. Essentially, even with 30% off, directly from ST my warranty would be $80 and for 3 years. This one from CostCo would be $60 and for 4 years.

Awesome. I need it for two new TVs bought outside of costco. I bought my TVs using AMEX. So, with this Squaretrade three years, it becomes five years.

Care to elaborate for those of us who don't want to read through 410 of your previous posts? I'm seeing mostly postive reviews for ST at amazon.

The only negative thing I've read are:

1) They will warranty your unit only up to the cost you warranty it for. Any repairs will be deducted from the total, so if you warranty a $1,000 TV, and claim #1 uses $300 to fix it, then you make a 2nd claim for a totalled TV, they will reimburse you $700 (not $1,000).

2) Some people claim they are unfairly denied warranty coverage. All I have to say is that ALL (and I mean ALL) warranty companies will have this happen at one time or another, but with SquareTrade the percentage I've seen is far less than other extended warranty companies (like the ones that Best Buy, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, CompUSA, Circuit City, PacificSales, and other stores push you with).

Also, it is very important to read the Terms & Conditions before buying. There are some exclusions to SquareTrade warranties (as with all warranties) and the buyer should educate themselves before buying (ie: if you don't get ADH, then your submerged cell phone will NOT be covered).

I saw this at Costco the other day. It looks good. I had decided not to buy the square trade warranty since my TV has a 2 year warranty. Thirty dollars for a one year warranty did not sound worth it. If I could deal only with them for 3 years bypassing the manufacturer, I would have bought one.

PS Now I need to determine if I can still get coverage under the Costco version. I bought on black Friday.

You have 60 days from purchase of tv (anywhere) to buy the Costco square trade warranty. Purchased ny tv Nov 5 and purchased warranty 2nd week in Dec. Square trade cost was 89.99 for 3 years total. Purchase at costco gave me 1 yr manufacture and 3 yrs square trade for 99.99 much better deal

For those of you who buy electronics at Costco with an AmEx, I found this out recently and you should know it too...

Costco doubles the MFG warranty on a lot of their products. Amex will double a mfg warranty up to a year. However these doublings run concurrently, so if you buy something at Costco where the normal warranty is one year and Costco doubles it to two years, The AmEx extension does not give you a third year, it runs at the same time as the Costco extension.

Give me this info: Whats the age of your item when you have claimed the warranty with ST?

Read my posts(replied above) carefully, you might have ALREADY Scammed..
Example: If your item was covered by ST while its under the original manufacturer warranty(and even in the Credit Card extended warranty.. like Amex, master card etc).. you are royally scammed since ST sold the same coverage for the fist one/two years that you automatically get from the manufacturer/Costco/Credit card.

When it may not be a scam? If the ST coverage STARTS AFTER the existing coverages ends(Year 1 manufacturer , Year 2 Costco(in case of costco purchase), Year 3 Amex(or other cards which covers similar), Then ST STARTS.. Nice..... but the reality is SCAM... Stick Out Tongue

You don't need a Costco membership to purchase this, just pay the non-member surcharge of 5%. This only adds $1.50-$5.00 to the cost depending on which warranty you are purchasing. Still a GREAT deal.
