Thread Details

I have searched the forums and have not seen this posted, so I thought I would post this deal up in hopes someone can take advantage. Comcast is offering Internet Essentials internet for $9.99 per month 1.5Mbs Speed. No rental fee or price increase. You do have to qualify for free school lunch, I just got the deal and help save me money. I also got a decent laptop for an additional $149.99 which was added on to my bill.

How to qualify
To qualify for $9.95 a month Internet service and a low-cost computer, your household must meet all these criteria:
*Be located where Comcast offers Internet service
*Have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program
*Have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
*Not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment
How to apply:
Call 1-855-8-INTERNET (1-855-846-8376) to request an application
We will mail you an application. Complete and return it, along with lunch program documents from your child's school
We will notify you by mail about the status of your application. Allow 7-10 days for a response

This is not a slick deal, I work for Comcast and this is everyday pricing for this internet. and is going for 3 years. It's a Netbook Computer and not everyone will be accepted.

Look the truth is I didn't know about it till now, It saved me $50 a month, Saved me $600 a year on internet, don't know what kind of slick deal your looking for, but $600 a year for those who qualify is a super slick deal. By the way thanks for not posting this deal since you ALWAYS knew about it, could have been saving money the whole time.....Some people. shake head

It's their economy tier internet. If you plan to watch stream videos online with it, you'll probably hate hitting the pause button and wait for it to load.

Only if you are watching HD video. 1.5 megabits is fast enough to watch youtube videos.

Is there any deals going on now for internet only? My Mom has Comcast and it would be nice to get that bill lowered a bit.

The fact that you COULD afford Internet at $59.99 and still chose to abuse the system is exactly what's wrong with the system. There should be no special treatment for those who didn't work hard enough to get far enough to be able to afford something as basic as Internet access at a fair price. Do you know how hard it was for me to receive my trust fund? I had to finish high school and get a 4-year bachelor degree and then work for 2 years before I could retire.

Is it true Comcast internet has to go through a computer prior to be sent out wireless? I was about to purchase their service a few weeks back and had planned to directly from the modem to the wireless router (as I am now with my current ISP), but was told by the CSR this was not possible.

Agreed. And probably had to put yourself through college too. I had no support in college, working full time (making about 12K per year) and still could not get any grants. My aid was only in loans.

Who is abusing the system? Comcast provided the offer and some people qualify and save money. Nothing wrong in my opinion. Perhaps you should complain to comcast and demand them to stop the offer which apparently is very unfair in your opinion. BTW you should define *fair price* for internet access first.

Yeah, Comcast needs this money to bribe the FCC.

You might have to run it to a computer for initial set up, and then clone that PC's MAC address in the router to get it to work, but after that, directly from modem to router works perfectly fine.
