Sony... where did it all go so terribly wrong? (warning... bit of a rant)
So I write this as my son's xMas present (PS3 slim) is downloading a patch for Little Big Planet 2. The excitement when he opened the present has quickly turned into frustration. It took all of 15 minutes to open, unbox and hook up the PS3. Now it's going into the 2nd hour of updates. I'm not sure if he could have played without updating but background update is not possible for LBP2 and I had no idea it was going to take this long. I checked my connectivity on DSL reports, no problems.
We have a 360 and had a Wii as well so my son is familiar with game consoles. He's not played a second on the PS3 but he's already weary of Sony. This is not the impression that Sony wants a 10 year old future consumer to have.
I like the hardware is better than the 360. No external power brick, blue ray, bluetooth connectivity... but the firmware is crap... I'm not even touching PSN until I'm convinced the security issues are completely resolved.
How did this happen? Everyone used to lust after Sony products. One only bought another portable cassette or CD player if one could afford a Walkman. My 15 year old Trinitron XBR still has an awesome picture with contrast only matched by the Kuros.
Where did it all go so terrible wrong? It seems they are more interested in DRM and protecting their copywriter than providing a superior consumer experience which may actually lead to... gasp!!! profits!!!
