Can a 60W laptop power adapter be used for a laptop that came w/ a 40W adapter?
Hi, I just found that my Thinkpad Edge (w/ a 40W adapter) works with a Lenovo 60W power adapter. It runs and charges well off the 60W, but I wonder if in the long run the higher than original wattage would damage my laptop. TIA!

It should be fine. Your biggest concern would be if there is a power spike which may cause a power surge beyond the capacity of what the internal power supply can handle. Under normal operations though it should be fine.

Wattage doesn't matter so much as long as it is rated higher than what it requires. The thing you should be more concerned of is the amperage and polarity matching up. (Though the polarity should be the same if you said it takes a charge and works.)

I have Dell Bricks from 40 watts to 100 that i swap all the time they all work just better to go up than down

if you use one that's lower than what your laptop requires you might get a message that says the battery will take longer to charge. specifically i'm talking about dell laptops here
