This is me thread crapping and has nothing to do with this specific deal so skip my comment if you want. I acknowledge it and I'm sorry for it but too I'm curious if anyone else shares in my opinion.
Hilton lost some respect with me about a year ago when their HHonors program saw a point increase in their redemption side and I started to see more of these promotional games. The value of my point bank was immediately decreased when I had to use more points to reserve rooms I used to reserve for less. Now I'm constantly getting notified of "get more points bonus points by doing 'abc' or 'xyz'...just sign up for the promotion". I don't want the games, I want to earn the rewards then spend the rewards as simply as possible. All the chains do it, I just believe Hilton does it more than others. Again, really sorry for the TCing. Relative to Hilton HHonors program, OP posted a good deal here. |

I don't mind the double dip. I seem to remember it as a consistent part of their program. It's the inconsistent promotional/bonus programs that you have to continually sign up for that get me frustrated. I haven't pushed a pencil on the double dip w/miles but for someone who flies quite a bit miles via hotel stays seems a slow way to get miles and then you have to consider the lost opportunity to get double dip on hotel points. With all reward systems, I try to break it down to the $$ per point/mile and try to get the best return out of the points. The more shenanigans a card/hotel/airline tries to pull, the easier it is to disassociate the $$ value from the point which is one of the things they want which, conversely, makes it more difficult for me to keep that $$ to point association. I'll actually sacrifice some of that "return" for simplicity if and where it makes sense to me. |
