Computer for my grandfather
Looking for an inexpensive PC for my elderly grandfather. Reliability and affordability are key. It'll be mostly for surfing the web, email. Thus CPU speed and disk space isn't too important. A 22-24" monitor is desirable but not a must since we could easily get that separately. He prefers a desktop (not a laptop or tablet). Should be preloaded with windows, but the version doesn't really matter. I haven't been shopping for PC's for a while so I am open to suggestions... again, would like to keep costs low. Thanks!!

I don't know how helpful this is, but WalMart is worth looking into. In some cases they might have it in-store or free shipping to the store. I see some e-Machines that are getting good reviews for about $300 (monitor not included). I don't have any personal experience with the brand. What is your definition of inexpensive? Although your grandfather does not want a laptop, is he open to the possibility to a laptop with a larger external monitor connected to it? If that is an option, I got my Compaq laptop for under $300 some months ago. I see similar sales running throughout the year at some of the office supply stores. Just my two cents...

I ended up looking on craigslist and found some halfway decent Pentium 4 systems in the $25-75 range, so we're going to look at a few tomorrow. They have windows installed, antivirus, etc. Seems like a good play for now, and if it doesn't work out we may fall back and spend ~300 or so on a Walmart system. But I'm thinking craigslist will get us something that'll be good enough. Thanks for the suggestions! repped

buy a 17 inch monitor. i assume he will be using simple software, like MS word and use the internet. so a toshiba would do just fine. just make sure you get one of them software for the elderly. it has big fonts and gigantic graphics and much simpler and basic layout.
