Looking for desktop replacement for Mom under $500 with at least Intel i3 chip and this one looks pretty decent. Ordered one for Store pick-up and will monitor other deals for a couple days then pick it up if nothing better materializes.

This HP looks promising also if it goes on sale for $450 on 1/8/12:

Got this from Walmart. Almost similar to the Best buy one (Processor of BB is better than WM).

Yes, I saw that one also but decided on the Best Buy one instead because it has 1 more USB port for $10 more (BB one has 3 whereas the Walmart one only has 2 USB ports).

She has a wireless mouse and printer that will take up 2 USB ports so want her to have 1 USB port free for flash drive or external HD or other USB plug-in.

Thanks for sharing and highlighting any other comparisons between the two! Smilie

If you don't mind Refurbs from Dell whenever they have the 15% or 20% off coupons you can get an i3 with Blu-Ray for that price and sometimes even an i5. These would be the 17R's that they sell.

I had no idea and suggested the satellite c655 to my gf, the case was busted and coming apart at the hinges after about 4 months of light use. Not thread crapping, just giving my 2 cents.

Thanks shoeymis, if it were for me I'd take a chance on refurb, but since it is for my Mom I'm looking for new. I bought a desktop scratch & dent from Dell outlet once for a great price - had graphics card issues though and had to have service performed right out of box. The tech could not fix it and after a couple of tries Dell did make it right by giving me a new model with better specs. So it was a bit of hassle but in the end I got a better computer for the same great price.

So for me it would be OK but for my Mom I'll pay a little more and reduce chance of any hassle for her - thanks for the input!

I don't believe dell outlet has any coupons going on today, but every couple of weeks they seem to run a 15% off coupon code. A few times a year they do 20% off coupon codes. You will find them posted here once they are available. I always do a "Dell Outlet Coupon" search on SD before purchasing a computer.
