I would just like to say that I agree 100% with phonic - getting spammed deal alerts and spamming people referral links should NOT be the way to get contest entry points - things like contributing to the site should be weighted the heaviest when deciding who deserves a prize - yes leaving some of it to chance is good and all, but we should NOT be rewarding the spammers due to their spam in any case.

It might be of interest to you guys to take a look at some of the stats regarding the giveaways.

While I enjoyed reading it, and found some of the information informative, it still doesn't really go into the concerns I addressed. Account age of a year and 50 posts is not really much of anything in and of itself. Don't get me wrong, it's exponentially better than one month and 0 posts, but still. I would like to know the stats based on reps, age of accounts greater then say 3 years, higher posts counts, and posting of actual deals (hot or not). |

I still dont see why you people complain.
You can play the lotter for years spend $100 a week and never win. Random Joe goes and puts $1.00 on it and wins the entire thing. You think are "entitled" to win because you play more, are more loyal. It's all luck. You can't make a 100% "Fair" contest. Take an online video game for instance. You can't give the Veterans too many "extras" because it will make the newbies never able to catch up and "win" It's a very fair contest. |

Your other points are irrelevant. If the contests at this site were simply "one entry per account", then I don't think anyone would have a problem with it. But that's not the case here. They already do weight the number of entries based on various factors including tenure, reputation (ie: helpful contributions), posts (more contributions), etc. My issue, and the issue that many other similar users have, is that the weighting is heavily in favor of new users, and the 'bonus points' given to veterans is so minor in comparison, that it's almost insulting. And contrary to the very limited stat breakdown for the overall winners of the contests, if you look at the average winner, they have contributed practically nothing to the site. Many have never posted, are new accounts, and do nothing on this site other than enter contests. They don't even vote on deals. How is rewarding them in the best interests of this site? I personally have referred close to a hundred people to this site, many of which contribute. But I refuse to spam my friends on Facebook about it. Especially since most of them already are members. I never got "credit" for them though since I say "goto slickdeals.net" not "goto my referral link http://whatever". I have no problem with some n00b winning a contest, as long as the point distribution is fair and balanced. And in order for that to happen, my feeling is that the people who contribute to this site should be acknowledged (in a meaningful way). That doesn't mean a new user can't win, it just means that a veteran user is more likely to win. And that, in my opinion, is fair. I'm sure that when (and IF) you've been here longer than one month, have posted more than 12 times, and have contributed enough to get more than zero rep points, you will agree. |

It's just a website. Care more for real life crap.
And I'll be here a while But very rarely post deals simply because I have little time to look, and when I do the posts are already created. But I contributed once already at least. But yea....don't waste time complaining over a free website for free things....kinda silly.... |

I've been here for years, much longer than many of you. I'm not that active, but I post every so often if I have something to contribute to a thread. Usually if I find a deal, it's already up here.
I enter contests for prizes I'd like to win. Who wouldn't want free stuff? Far too much butthurt and complaining by people in this thread. Seniority shouldn't mean that you automatically win, otherwise people wouldn't contribute much for years. I don't mind the deal alerts, it's usually one email per day and I don't even have to read it. Bottom line, if it's your time to win, congrats. This space for rent
