Official XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Strategy Game By Firaxis

That's disappointing. I didn't really like FFT/FFTA that much.

that's the only game i'd consider on fft's level. they're neck and neck for best game of all time. i can't say either is better than the other.

Game is looking good, I'm used to playing XCOM on a PC but I'm wondering if the PS3 version will be playable & fully featured, would be more fun playing on the couch on the big screen and surround sound.

I am reviving this old thread because I have not found an offical XCOM one I was planning to skip the X-com reimagining because I figured it could never live up to my high xcom standards and memories of the past. Xcom was by far one of my favorite games and beating the original game is right up there with rescuing the princess for the first time in super mario bros.

After seeing all the steller reviews I decided to pick it up and I am hooked. I have abouut 5 hours of play time invested and have a feeling this game is going to suck away countless hours of my time. I am not gonna waste everyone's time with an in depth review there are a ton of them out there, but if you are on the fence about buying It like I was then go pick it up.

A few tips from being just a few months in:
My favorite soldiers are assault

My highest ranking soldier is a sniper and they get a skill that basically throws a scanner undetected into a given area showing all the aliens locations. Don't underestimate the value of that skill.

My support soldiers smoke grenades have saved my ass more times than I can count.

There is an option to customize your troops in the barracks and you can change your soldiers armor color.
My first few missions I moved assault soldiers when I wanted to move a sniper and a support when I ment to move an assault trooper and it cost me. Now I color my support guys armor red, sniper white and assault blue this has saved me from making more stupid mistakes.

I'm playing the PC version though the way the UI is set up I would imagine it could be played just as easy with a controller on the PS3 or 360. I may pick up a console version as well for when my 3yo commandeers my gaming computer to watch netflix

Yea saving the planet can be extremely time consuming!!! I would not pick it up unless you have lots of free time on hand. The missions are not near as long as old school X-com (you can only take 6 troops per mission) but it still is easy let several hours slip by at a time. I rarely buy release day games especially for the PC since they seem to drop in price so fast I made an exception this time and no regrets

I agree this is a great game, I am a few hours into the single player campaign and it is loads of fun.
