Realistically, no one ever really finishes their backlog...

i made it thru the alien base last night. man that level took me like 2+ hours. i'm at the point where i'm so careful every battle takes real long, despite the fact i have squads of decked colonels who wreck shop.

it's weird though, a lot of people say, and guides i've read, all say snipers are the best class. it seems to me sniper rifles have the lowest accuracy. like i'll be flanking an enemy, not far away, and have a <70% hit chance with a sniper rifle, even with the scope item, but if i switch to their side arm the chance to hit goes up like +15%. what gives? it only seems like they have a decent hit% when they have high ground and damn good ground bonus ability. then it's like 99%-100% almost always. but high ground is rare to come by. both their colonel level bonus are pretty sick, but i go with double tap. if i was more confident of always finding high ground then i could envision a sniper taking down an entire squad with in the zone.

i still mainly use heavies and assault. rocket launchers are great in this game. not just for the damage and range, but destroying cover.

The closer a sniper is to the target, the lower his accuracy is with his sniper rifle. This is why up close, switching to pistol significantly increases your accuracy. A sniper with squad sight can fire up to 100 units ahead IIRC so you want to keep him back with an open LOS. That accuracy is significantly diminished if you go snapshot (but the trade off being that you can fire and move with your rifle on the same turn)

even at a mid-range distance they don't seem to have a decent chance to hit. and for all people talk about it, that squad sight seems useless. i mean, when do you ever get a clear los from that far away? my snipers with snap shot and grappling hook armor are way better than my one with squad sight.

That's because your sniper has an accuracy penalty due to snapshot. Squad site is awesome because your sniper's range is actually more than his/her sight range. The trick to snipers is proper positioning (cover your advancing squad from the back). I can't count how many times my squad sight+ double tap sniper has saved my squad from an impending ambush thanks to proper positioning. Of course there are levels in which they aren't useful due to the confined nature of the map but those are few and far between.
