i applied this morning, but go the pending screen. I just called that number and they transferred me to the security department and I had to verify my information. i did all that but then they told me they're submitting my application and will know in 5 to 7 business day. |

Ok, I know I have received deals in the mail that were around 50,60k but Ive ignored them as I had no desire for the card at the time and I was taking advantage of the 75k AA/Citi deal.
I have a Continental flight in April so I was thinking of applying for a card so I can save $50 on the checked baggage fees. Thanks! Update: Damn, I have to purchase my flight my tomorrow night so I would not have enough time to charge it on the card... which is required for the waived baggage fees - would have been sweet $50 plus 60k. does anyone know how fast they would approve it and if they would let you make a continental purchase before actually getting the card (like give you a number or virtual number on phone)?

was coming up on the anniversary of the continental one pass credit card and was going to close it anyway. just got my lounge passes too
 applied with OP's trick for 60000points and got the message for additional review. called the reconsideration line and told them to close my continental card and move the credit line over. done no problems yey!excellent deal for additional free points before the one pass card gets converted to united anyway. |

Just got instant approval though I do not think there is a chance that I will spend 25K in one calendar year.
I am hoping I can call them and figure out a way to get my baggage fees waived on my upcoming flight. Of course I will try showing the card which I will have by then but my reservation wont be under it. If I already have a chase united card with miles on it. can I apply for this card and also get the 40k bonus stacked on top?

I tried to call and apply but they said they were only offering 25k bonus miles. Is there a number i can call to apply for the 50k?

Be patient, and yes I read all the post but did not see the answer.
I dont have any united or continental miles. I did just create a United account hough so I have a rewards number. Is there any way to still get the 50k deal??? TIA. |

Followed the OP's direction precisely and got instant approval on the card. It took having to sign out and going to my profile page before I saw the offer on the lower left hand side (I didn't see a change on the main page). The extra miles will come in handy for a planned summer trip. Nice...thanks for the heads up!

Does anyone know if the miles can be used for merchandise, or only for flights? I would get the card but only keep it for the free year. I'm not sure we can travel this year. And apparently when you close the account you lose the miles.

cards with bonuses and annual fees come with carrots and sticks, enjoy the bonuses but keep canceling due to annual fee and get BLAKCLISTED/BANNED and also risk of existing cards getting closed.

I followed these steps on the 6th Jan
1. Log into Mileage Plus and see new offer of 60K 2. Apply for new offer 3. No instant approval Called today at the number 800-432-3117 and found I was approved. |

On the flip side of that is negotiations. Many times you can call the CS rep's before the fee is due and negotiate a miles equivalent to the fee, a credit to you account after paying the fee, or bonus miles on certain categories of spend for several months. Or if the card fits perfectly with your travel habits than the annual fee might be worth it. |
