Okay to close old credit cards?
I've always heard that closing your oldest credit card is a bad idea and may negatively reflect in your credit score. I've always had high credit scores, 750-780. My oldest credit card is 6 years old and I haven't used (not even touched it) in the past 4 years. I'd rather use my rewards cards. I have 4 student loans I'm currently paying on, a mortgage, a car loan, and 2 other credit cards that I use all the time for the rewards. I also have a goverment travel credit card for work, but that doesn't show up on my credit report for some reason. All of these accounts are in good standings, never missed a payment or been late on a payment.
Do you think it'll hurt me to close this unused credit card? Just don't see the point in keeping it open. Thanks!
