Deal Details

This is more of an FYI since it has been around, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. I needed a large car to move some furniture this weekend and ran across Costco's discount program through the major car rental companies (Avis, Enterprise, Budget, etc). I have literally looked for hours (probably wasted too much time to save a few bucks at this point) and Costco was the best deal by far.

I got a full sized SUV for $88 from Budget whereas the site is $200 even after discount codes. I think it depends on what type of car you want.

Costco also has other programs for car buying and travel.

Here is the link that everyone is asking for:

Costco provides with membership the use of discount codes to apply with Alamo, Avis, Budget, or Enterprise currently. I agree with the OP, the discounts provided by Costco's code are significant compared to most others.

The other added benefit is that you can get Costco's support when you book. I recently had a trip to costa rica, and I booked my rental car with the Costco code. Unfortunately the Alamo that I rented from locally was not "the best" and ran out of cars. I had to book thru another local car company while I was there. When I returned to the states I wrote an email to customer service at costco about how alamo sucked...and I was taken care of personally by the costco customer service team. The ended up negotiating that Alamo Cut me a check for the extra I had to pay with another company. Costco's Service is the BEST in my humble opinion.

I have a costco membership, but I'm going to be honest with you guys.
I'm a 21 year old college student living in Los Angeles.
I just want a nice looking car to show off/mess around with on a weekend that me and my friends go to places for fun and then at night partying most likely around Hollywood.
Any recommendations.
What are the chances of me being able to rent the newly designed Dodge Charger for a few days at a good price? Thanks.
Are you in any college organizations/honor societies? The honor society i'm in offers a discount with enterprise that waives the underage fee if you are a member

I used this over Christmas and the Alamo employee said Costco almost always has the best rate for them. I also don't think you have to provide your Costco membership number during the reservation process (they don't require a credit card up front either), and the rental counter didn't require me to show my Costco card (the reservations note this may be required). So it may be possible to get this discount without actually being a Costco member.

This is front page? This is not a good deal. Using the Flyertalk coupon codes and tricks it's very easy to beat the Costco rates every single time.

For example, OP could have joined National Emerald Club (for free), booked a last minute mid-size rental deal (usually $10-20/day based on most markets), used the "Free Day" coupon on National's site, then self-upgraded to a Tahoe/Expedition/Large SUV of choice after asking the lot attendants nicely. And for the weekend, he could have been cruising around in a nice full-size SUV for less than $50 all in.

Of course there's no guarantee that the full size SUV will be there on an EC reservation, but I'd take my chances when the cost differential is that great. And you could always make the Costco reservation as a backup as there's no cancellation fees or no-show fees.

$88/day? OUCH.

If anyone needs more info on the Emerald Club program feel free to PM me...I've spent way too long figuring out the complexities of National Car Rental and have it down to a science.
...and if you call Virgin Atlantic, you can reserve a flight into space, use an un-yet found coupon, stack it with the coupon code, and on the flight, ask the flight attendants nicely, and you can sit in the captain's chair. Dude, you have so many assumptions.

Well, dude, you're more than welcome to overpay to drive off the lot in your Economy rental. Doesn't bother me one bit! I'll be the guy waving from the Infiniti I paid $18/day for.

(And PS - "un-yet" is not a word.)

I'm seeing $250-$325 for a SUV rental for 7 days :-\ same as Kayak.com and other sites, even after discounts. I rather toss this on my airlines credit card and score 4x the miles for the same price and get 1200-1300 miles.

You should double check the rules of your card program - many cards/FF programs cap the number of miles that can be earned on any given rental.

I don't think they do Hertz. But have used Costco and found the prices good - also usually includes a second driver

Don't know how the other rental companies do it, but at Enterprise their employees set the prices (they don't tell people this). It's completely arbitrary. So ya, you can bargain with them.

Also, they are pressured to rent out cars for the weekend on Friday, so if you gave them a call at like 2pm on a Friday they will 100% give you a killer deal if they have cars left. Keep in mind they normally charge $9.99/day for weekends. AAA membership gets you an additional 3% discount.
False - Enterprise has a robot that sets their prices..

I usually use National with Emerald Club. Got in on that a few years ago for free and use a contract id of 5760333. Code still works and gives full LDW on the rental and can also stack coupons to it(can find coupons at mousesavers. Planning a trip to Vegas coming up and am getting a rate that is $50 better than Costco.

They have good prices with Avis, but I was able to book cheaper directly with Hertz. Yeah, you still have to do a bunch of searches, not as simple as airfare using kayak.

You should be careful - that's a code for travel agents (IATA), and if you ever got into an accident, you'd have to prove that you had permission to use that code to take advantage of the LDW. Otherwise you're footing that bill and any rate discrepancy too.
