Thread Details

I bought a remote control for my PS3 so that I can watch Netflix without running my controllers out of batteries so fast. It comes with an IR emitter, so it can be programmed to also control my TV and Receiver.

How do I go about programming the remote with the codes necessary to control my TV or receiver? I've googled the question and the Sony manual is worthless.

What remote do you have, please give a link to Amazon or something Smilie

From what I know the remote (not the controller) for PS3 is Bluetooth so it can't control a tv.

I know there are ones created by logitech which can control both but they are pretty expensive. ($100+)

I bought this [bestbuy.com]remote since my Harmony does not have BT.

None of my other remotes support BT, but this Sony remote has both BT for the PS3, and IR for everything else. It even has labeled buttons for the TV and AMP. No instructions are given for how to program these functions.

FYI- I have a Yamaha receiver and an LG plasma TV, not that this should matter much. Once I figure out how to set the remote to the programming mode, finding the codes should be a simple matter.

I think this SONY remote will only control other SONY appliances.

If you already have a Harmony remote, why don't you get the Harmony Bluetooth adapter for the PS3 instead of a new remote?

I use my Harmony to control everything (including my PS3 and it works great)

I have a setup like that, but not a sony remote. Think it is a bluelink or something I got for around $40 on amazon. The manual had an autosetup that got all of my programming about 90% there and required me to do about 5 buttons after that. You may have to just search the codes for each of your devices to do it. They honestly should be in the manual.

It's easy to program. The codes are in the manual. It was a Christmas gift and I looked up the first code for an LG TV in the manual and set it right out of the package while I was still at my parent's house. When I got home it worked perfectly on my LG.

Official PS3 remote (it has PS3 bluetooth&IR both).

Thanks, but it isn't easy when the remote doesn't come with a manual, and I can't find the manual online that even tells me how to put the remote into programming mode. Care to share this guarded secret with a complete internet stranger? Promise I won't tell anyone else.Wink

As compared to the wonderful Xbox 360 media remote that has to be pointed within an inch (no exaggeration) of the sensor on console?

OP, that remote should control everything. I have a Samsung TV and a Sony Home Theater Receiver and my remote (same one you have) worked everything right out of the box.

IIRC the remote did come with a manual. What happened to yours?

Since you brought it up, I do have to say using my kinect with netflix has been great.

I can tell it which episode to choose and to pause play skip etc.. Its really the only thing I use that stupid kinect for.. but it is lovely.

I wonder how difficult it would be for sony to integrate that into the move camera...?

That would be much appreciated, and I'll bet others have the same question as me.

I don't believe my remote came with a detailed manual, but if it did I tossed it with the box since I figured- it's a remote, how difficult can this be.
