I can only hope it just shows a datapad at the end that says "SPECULATION."

And hopefully you don't have to repeat the marauder shields shooting just to see the extended ending

OK I know this is almost tantamount to blasphemy, but I quite liked the ending. Sure, there were some plot holes. But if you choose the 'best' one (Spoiler
the ending is quite nice. Not sure what all the fuss is about.GreggerG: The MP DLC is free, so I don't see why people wouldn't get it. "We are all Republicans. We are all Federalists"

I'm not entirely sure what the plot hole you're referring to is. But overall I felt the ending was a good mix of sacrifice and catharsis. Sure it was a bit questionable (in particular the addition of a random character right at the end). But that just wasn't enough for me not to enjoy it. All in all I thought ME3 lacked the thrill of mystery and discovery of the first two games, but was nonetheless quite enjoyable in its own way. |

Ah OK, yes I see what you mean. Agreed on the plot holes. I suppose I was trying to stay within Bioware's artistic vision for the game. I will say though that clearly Mac Walters is far inferior to Drew Karpyshyn. Any idea why he left the team? His books / writing in ME1 was fantastic.
Regarding your point about player choices: no, I always played full Paragon. Couldn't bring myself to do anything else. While I do see your point about wanting to have player choices have more of an impact on the ending, I think taking the nerdrage too far on that score risks missing another point - the choices matter in and of themselves. The defining aspect of my Shepard's character was empathy and concern for every life, human or alien. The impact of each choice - saving the Rachni Queen etc. - is partly in its consequences but partly in the act itself. Just because she didn't help the war effort much doesn't mean that saving her was worthless. A choice doesn't have to have meaningful consequences for it to be a meaningful choice. At least not the way my Shepard saw the world. |
http://drewkarpyshyn.com/c/?p=369#more-369 My guess it's probably similar to Brent Knowles's reason i.e. Bioware has changed.
Now put that in perspective of people who made countless hours of making all different kind of decision and you should sort of understand some of the nerdrage. I have no problem with the ending they want to go with...but the writing is just pale in comparison with genophage and quarian/geth plot line. Check the renegade video of them. Yes well, once again regarding the Collector Base: I thought the right thing to do, regardless of future impact, was to destroy the base. As it turns out I had 7000+ assets even so. All one needs to do is scan every system thoroughly. My point is I'm playing an RPG, and my avatar isn't just making these choices to maximize a war asset number. He's doing what he thinks is right.
All of that said, I still would've liked to have seen what Mr. Karpyshyn would have done with the ending. He leaked a rough sketch of the original (intended) ending upon leaving Bioware - has to do with dark energy. |
