10x intelligent zoom/18x extra optical zoom
1.3x maintaining the picture quality even combining a digital zoom means the 8x optical can virtually extend to 10x equivalent. Furthermore, the extra optical zoom function that extends zoom power to 18x by using the center part of the large CCD to bring subjects even closer.
Touch-control shooting
The DMC-FH27 gives you smooth, free, touch-control shooting. Your subject is instantly brought into auto focus by simply touching the image on the large, 3.0-inch, 230,000-dot LCD. You can also operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time with just a touch, and the Sonic Speed AF system provides fast, accurate AF performance for an entirely new style of shooting.
Venus engine VI
The high-speed, high-performance Venus engine VI is incorporated in the DMC-FH27 to enable the recording of beautiful images with higher quality signal processing including the Intelligent Resolution technology. An advanced noise reduction system in the Venus engine VI applies noise reduction (NR) to luminance noise and chromatic noise separately. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO1600 high sensitivity at full resolution for beautiful night shots or dimly lit indoor shots.
Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF system includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly focus on moving subjects, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.
iA (Intelligent Auto) mode
When you don't know which mode will give you the best shooting results, or when a sudden photo opportunity pops up and you don't have time to make any settings, simply choose the iA (Intelligent Auto) mode and let the camera do it all for you. You just choose the iA mode, aim at your subject, and shoot. 6 detection and correction functions are simultaneously activated to optimize the settings, so you get stunning photos every time.

Very nice set of features for an entry level point & shoot including a touch screen. Hot deal IMO.

I purchased this camera in the hunt for a nice Point & Shoot with video mode for my wife.
I wanted to love it, I did.
On paper, the feature list + the price was outstanding as far as I was concerned.
Once received, we rattled off maybe 100 pictures, mostly indoors in normal lighting conditions and the results were so far from what we were looking for or expected that there was basically zero conversation about returning it.

I'm sure that the above is nowhere near a complete and fair test method to find out what the camera can do in different situations, but......
A good portion of our photos are indoors with family and friends / events, etc. and it was disappointing us over and over for that specific use.

Huh? Does zero conversation about returning it mean you returned? I can't tell if you liked the camera or hated it. We've had two cameras now in this line. They suck for indoor or dim outdoor, take fantastic pictures in bright sunlight (what camera doesn't?) and generally shoot good video for a point'n'shoot.
Took probably over 10,000 pictures with them. Oh, and anything over ISO 200 looks terrible. i think my wife's iphone 4s takes superior videos and pictures to be honest.
For $200 they are so-so, for $100, worth it probably.
