Going web price for the PT-2030 is $30-35. Check Amazon or Buy for tape prices. $8-23+/roll, depending on what kind, what brand* and where purchased (wider or special-use tapes are more). Tapes are not something that I'd want to pick up locally, YMMV.

If you're going to be using this much, I'd be more concerned about the cost of batteries! Does this come with the Brother Power Adapter AD24 [staples.com]? I didn't see it in the specs, so another $20 to $25 maybe.

*(I think there's a "generic" - seems like buy.com also sells another acceptably reviewed brand of TZe compatible tapes)

I'm just trying to determine if I should spend more for a machine with cheaper refills, or a cheap machine and hope I don't need refills all that often. I need it for fundraisers and stuff so it's going to be dormant for a while then I am going to work the hell out of it before putting it up again for a while. The last labeler I picked up worked ok, but they pretty much stopped offering the tape for it about a year after I bought the thing.

You're welcome. What brand is/was your labeler? The profit's in the tapes, not the machine. Hard to believe they'd be in any hurry to discontinue the labels.

Likely that TZ tapes will be available for a long time.
