They are also giving free phone service for life if you buy a Magic Jack Plus for $69.95 so it's a no brainer to take that if you were planning to renew for 5 years.

My first thought was they are planning to go out of business. I have had Magic Jack for 2 years now and it has been rock solid for me. Rate increase sucks as bad as the Netflix fiasco.

so for this

we just have to pay $69.95 and that's all, no renewal fees or anything for life correct?

I'm also curious, I don't see where it says you still don't have to pay yearly

I don't think it CAN be clarified, since it doesn't explain it on the web site. Iffy....

Ok, so it includes 1 year of service, $29,95/yr after, and you lose your OLD magicjack credit. Ooma FTW

The traditional phone companies didn't go out of business when they raised rates over the years. The traditional phone companies are going under now, but only because a lot of people are cell phone only. Magic Jack may lose some customers, but I doubt they will go out of business.

I didn't buy a Magic Jack simply because I didn't think they had a sustainable business model. I don't want to have my phone just quit working one day.

IMHO, the biggest problem with these VOIP lines is that the call quality is in part dependent on your DSL quality. I used Magic Jack for two years and now I'm currently on NetTalk. (I got tired of having Magic Jack bog down my PC.) The price is good, but I can't say that I'm always happy with the call quality.

I'm using a magicjack plus (I already will be paying 29/yr) and really can't complain. The service has been great and replaced a 40/month bare bones AT&T landline.

They really do need to change their website though. Their infomercial looking website makes it look like a scam.

That's where the Magicjack+ is really handy...no computer required and calls are much clearer. I'm selling off my HP thinclient thing.
