I don't get it. Why would anyone that earns less than 57K buy tax software such as turboTax?

The fact doesn't tell to HOW and WHERE to file now.

It takes about a fifth of the time to do your taxes, and you know the calculations are correct. Those hours are well worth the $17 I spent on tax software this year. That said, if you're just filing 1040EZ (and your state's equivalent if it has income tax), I would agree.

I guess it makes it easier if you are itemizing, but then again maybe people that earn less than 57K don't have to worry about mortgage interest, interest income, daycare, healthcare costs, or anything else like that?

How does this program work with dividends and interest?

I have too and it's quick, easy, informative, hassle free and always gives me my maximum return and the best part it that it is a free service. Although with all the updates and perks this year I felt like I was getting over...lol Sure doesn't feel free !!!

We earn around $55k and I use tax software every year. I do it for free, of course, but the one year I couldn't find free state filing I happily paid the $10. We always qualify for 1040 or 1040EZ for federal, but we have to itemize for state because our tax exemptions and standard deductions are ridiculously low. I filled out the forms by hand and mailed them in one year, but it took hours and they mailed them back to me with a note that I had not included my W-2 (definitely did include it; they lost it somehow, I suppose). Doing them online makes the whole process easier and more organized.

Sigh. At least add some more info.

This is the best kept secret around. You can do a free Federal return anywhere, but this is the only place to get a free State return. I just found out about it this year and did my taxes a couple days ago.

You get to use H&R Block at Home for FED + STATE +eFILE for free!
AND you can import last year's return.

It doesn't get any better than that. Wish I had found out about this sooner...
