Thread Details

I just checked my Chase credit card today and there was a $19.95 charge from Experian *CreditRep on January 10, 2012. I never been on that website so it's definitely a fraudulent charge. I googled the charge and it seems a lot of people are being charged by them, the very people that's there to protect our credit. I called up Chase just now and they said they are getting tons of these false charges to their customers recently, and got my charge removed. He said my card wasn't compromised, so you should check your credit card activity and see if you got any of these charges.

Here is the complaint page with 7 pages of complaints regarding this charge.

Experian doesn't exist to protect your credit, they exist to sell your credit report.

I did sign up for a free report from TransUnion about two months ago, signed up for the 7day trial to see my score, and immediately called in to cancel it after receiving my score. However Experian is a different credit agency and I don't think this should be the cause.

I told the Chase representative about the 7 pages of complaints online and he said that is nothing compared to what they have been getting lately regarding these charges for Experian, so I decided to share with you guys to double check Smilie

@Samstag I think they have those credit alerts or something to monitor changes to your credit

I happen to like experian. I pay 5 dollars a month for unlimited credit reports and credit score access. I like to watch my score go up and down based on how many new credit cards I get to abuse.

Off Topic, but I had a question regarding Experian.

According to THIS, experian isn't giving out FICO scores to consumers. They have their own proprietary "fake" score that they give you. This article was published in 2009. I was wondering if they changed back or if they are still pulling this shit as of 2012.

When I looked at my credit score from TransUnion, they gave me the vantage score which is their own version instead of FICO. So I assume Experian is probably the same.

I was always under the impression that if you get the score from the credit agencies directly (i.e. from one of their websites) you get the FAKO score. The only way to get FICO is to get it from FICO's site directly.
