Pollution control is not a conspiracy. It's not an evil plan. It's an effort to save our lives. An the opposite side of pollution control are men who make more profit by polluting. Back to the TransCanada pipeline: If the pipeline runs over the aquifer and it leaks, what is the cheapest way to clean the contaminated water? That's easy: By not contaminating it in the first place! But if the corporation responsible for the pipeline isn't financially responsible for any cleanup costs, or if they don't care about expenses more than three fiscal quarters into the future, then it's cheaper to pollute. Now, I contend that 1,000 miles of high pressure oil pipeline buried 4 feet underground will absolutely, positively leak, many times, many barrels, like all other pipelines do. They should route around that aquifer, just as other pipelines do. Then, we should ask the important question: Why is it so important to pipe this oil to a port, for loading into tankers? Because said tankers won't deliver the oil to a US destination, unless Hawaii is so important to them. |
