The Evo View 4G received an official update to Honeycomb (Android 3.2) in December. Once you receive your tablet, you should be able to update it after connecting to WiFi if it arrives with Gingerbread. If you plan on rooting, do not install the Honeycomb update (if you do, you'll have to go back to Gingerbread). Check XDA-Developers for information on this.

This is a Google authorized device, which means it has full access to the Google suite of apps (full Android Market, Gmail, Navigation, etc.). These are features that other 7" Android tablets in this price range (Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet) do not have. Additionally, the View has dual cameras, GPS (which functions without cellular connectivity if you have a navigation app with maps stored on the device), and support for the Scribe pen which is far more than a simple capacitive stylus.

This is a CDMA/WiMAX device, which means there is no way to "unlock" the cellular connectivity for use on other carriers like with a GSM device. Since it's not GSM, it can't be used on AT&T or T-Mobile. It also cannot be used on Verizon since they will not add the device to their system for activation. The only potential options for using it on another carrier are flashing to a smaller CDMA carrier like Boost Mobile. It works perfectly fine as a WiFi only device.

ALSO-- it would be good to note that if your area does not have WiMAX 4G, it most likely never will because Sprint is moving to LTE. And this will not work on LTE 4G.

This tablet is significantly faster and with more features than the Kindle. Rooted Honeycomb, with or without HTC Sense, is available via the XDA developers community.

Sprint will allow day, week, or monthly no-contract use (great if you are going on vacation!) You can get 1GB/mo of Sprint data service for $19 a month WITH a 2 year contract OR replacing a phone that is already on Sprint and taking over the remainder of that phone's contract IF it has one. (If the phone is out of contract, the tablet will take over without needing a contract.)

1GB data service is perfect fine as long as video, audio, and other large downloads are reserved for WiFi. I've had mine View since August, and not yet hit 1GB in a month on Sprint doing email, GPS/Maps, and web browsing.
