Wow. Thx. I usually go with TaxAct. Now you saved me $12 or so this year (for the state fees.) Green for you for the info. I score twice with the states selected. I lived in MN 3/4 of the year and NC the rest of the year. Nice.

It should be around for a while. It is part of the federal FreeFile system [irs.gov]. It is available for low income filers who have simple returns.

How about changing the title to say certain states only.

this is actually false its only for people that qualify for the 1040-EZ form if you happen to be on social security and have to get another job (doing odd jobs) to support yourself your are ineligible because you are considered self hire and they will not release your forms back to you unless you pay the fee (about $300). which people that do not make enough cannot afford that luxury of having that much extra money to throw around.

The 1040-EZ only one is the one that they're advertising on TV that they'll do a simple federal return for free for anyone, at any of their offices.

This is part of the Free File Alliance (www.freefilealliance.org) and it is NOT limited to 1040EZ filing. Some states also partner through free file alliance. Some of the companies working with free file alliance have different qualifications - such as turbotax which has an income limit of 31,000 or qualify for the EITC. H&R Block's quals are 57,000 AGI or less, and I think 52 years old or younger.

I've used H&R Block, turbotax, and taxcut in the past through free file alliance for free federal (and usually free state as well) e-filing, and I haven't filed a 1040EZ so much as once. It's always been a 1040A.
