Matthew 23 27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. |

Many Christians sitting in those pews have no idea what they are really promoting when they cry for these types of laws. They are merely the beginnings of a what will end in the death of many, myself included. The Dominionists don't even debate whether these groups of people are worthy of death...they only debate how they will kill them. Lethal injection, stoning, beheading, etc. I've been to some of their forums and have read their comments...very dark and this is what drives the "christian right". It has nothing at all to do with love, nothing at all to do with God...it is extreme, murderous hate and I truly wish the Christians who follow this movement would research it and reconsider. |

![]() Look, by "you guys" I meant the "anti-gay herd." ("The good old days ...... when we used to strung up the minority. We should take our country back ..... to those good old days.") Last edited by TRNT; 01-24-2012 at 11:53 AM.. |

The “vice of specialization” entails the denial of intellect. “It is a denial because it rests on the superstition that understanding is identical with professional skill. The universal formula is: ‘You cannot understand or appreciate my art (science) (trade) unless you practice it.’ ” - Jacques Barzun |

I think most conservatives were and are fine with fighting this in the state legislatures. Roe was an end round the legislatures, which was the whole point of the exercise.
Even today abortion would be much more restricted even in the most Left-wing states than it is now...if not constrained by Roe. The polls were not skewed, biased, oversampled or wrong. I was. There was no wave, no landslide, I was wrong about that too. Nate Silver is the gold standard of polling analysis.

What if all of you christians are wrong about this? You end up going to the warm place because of your discrimination. Why not hedge your bets and not oppose gay marriage and simply let your god judge them when the time comes?
Isn't that a safer play? When the facts change, I change my mind.

As for gay marriage, it is more than the bedroom. Marriage is a public statement and ceremony, and it will have cultural consequences for us as a people. I think that (mainstream) Christians are brought into the politics of this b/c of the cultural consequences they perceive. There are no politicians actually trying to outlaw homosexual sex, so the bedroom is not really the location of the dispute, it is the public square. |

I expect there are plenty of politicians who would try to outlaw homosexual sex if they thought they could succeed. |

Marriage has been made into a public affair, wasn't always so. Adam and Eve had no ceremony or paperwork...in fact, there is no marriage ceremony at all in scripture. The sheer act of applying for and getting a license to marry from the state shows that man has tried to claim this power. But it remains an act of God, no matter how many laws, papers and the like are floating around. I'm short on time right now, but to sum it up: There are plenty of state approved marriages that are not true marriages...and plenty of couples who live together without the paper who are truly married. Here is a fascinating way to get married: Genesis 24 63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. 65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. 66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. 67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death. Pretty simple, he saw her, took her and she became his wife. |
