May is the hike season for travel, British airways is cheapest option but your cant fly via London as you said. For better deals, are you flexible to fly from New york? PM me for more details.

Why are the fares from April start (rather March 29th) suddenly rocket up by approx $250-300 ? The fares on Delta/ Continental etc from Memphis to Mumbai during any date in March is approx $1150 - $1200.. But the same goes up after 29th March to $1450 and above.... it is not only from Memphis but pretty much from any place (interior US) to Mumbai..Can someone (specifically Cheaptravel comment since he/she seems to be very active here on this thread) comment on it ?

one of the big reason of price hike after april is "vacation time". these months, most of them would like to fly and thus all the classes gets filled up in the airlines and prices goes up sky high.

Oh well...I tend to disagree...Vacation periods are mostly associated with school vacations which usually starts in Mid to end of May.. End of March to April is not school vacations and hence they are usually dull periods of the year for travel.. Sorry, I beg to differ.. there is definitely something else.. if you are a travel agent, you would know if Airlines have released their special fares or not..

hey, I need to clarify you here...fares starts rising actuly in May. April fares are good. New york to Mumbai in Emirates is available in the range of 1000 bucks for mid april, gulf air just in the range of 900 bucks. Air India and Emirates from Chicago to Hyderabad for 1300 approx. do you consider it a hiked price?
the reason you guessed is quite true here..may is vacation time and associated with school vacations only..and ofcrse airlines cannot match their dates with school vacations so it may start rising little earlier then vacation starts.

Are you specific about Air India? You would get it much cheaper in Aerofloat Russian airlines in the range of 1200-1300 bucks.
