Official DOTA 2 Thread - Find other people to play with here!

i actually just got invited to teh Beta, and still have to DL it andplay a practice round (or 2 or 5) to get the ropes. haev played well over 1000 lol matches i think, so reconfiguring playstyles for this one will be difficult, and i'll make some stupid decisions in this game, that would have been good decision in LOL. That being said, I'm going in knowing that I am going to be VERY wrong about what I think is the best thing to do fairly often at first will help me.

A few quick questions..in LOL, you're meta summoner levels from 1-30, which opens up masteries for you to choose in the meta game as well, on top or rune pages and summoner spells...does DOTA 2 have things like that?

No runes and no summoner spells. A lot of the mid-high tier items have abilities you need to activate. Also (superficial things)

1- Last hitting is more difficult than in LoL because your hero's initial DPS is a lot lower
2- Right click to buy stuff.
3- Mana pool/spell cost ratio is a lot lower than compared to LoL so you can't cast your spells as much as in LoL.
4- Camera is pulled in a lot closer than compared to LoL. Beware of that.

First post, but I've been a lurker on the site and forums for a while and figured i'll join in on the games.
I wouldn't mind joining in on your games if you guys are still playing.
Have no clue how to add to the wiki or if there's a post requirement but here's my info.

Heroes you play (if applicable): I generally random and can play most of the heroes relatively well.
If I had to pick a few heroes they would be: Axe, NS, N'aix, BS, Razer, Veno, Riki, Dwarven Sniper, Weaver, Ursa, Jugg, Dazzle, WR,OD.
Other similar games you might play (LoL, HoN, DOTA..): DOTA, and LoL (but i've stopped both once i got into DOTA 2)
Times you are available to play: Most nights, Weekends
Any other info: I'm busy at random times during random weeks because of projects, but i'm usually online so just give me a msg to see if i'm up for a game!
I'm perfectly willing to help with item builds or whatnot if you ask. I'm not the an expert player but I like to think i'm decent, usually lol.

Whats the average wait time for you guys when you click 'play'? I tend to always wait about 2-3 minutes, and then i get too impatient to keep waiting, and play soemthing else. this has happened 2-3x now. Am i doing something wrong...?

There's maybe three of us here that play on a regular basis together so the more the merrier. I typically play on Thursday/Friday nights and a smattering on the weekends (west coast time).

Nope, the wait is generally 2-3 min. There are things you can do, such as adding additional regions (I only play on US East/West servers) that may or may not diminish the wait time but typically that's the norm in my experience. At any given time there's only ~20K people playing since it's still a closed beta.

Everytime I've been on, it always shows that there are like 2-300 hundred people on...which always struck me as strange :/

You might be looking at 2-300 servers...not people..

From midnight- 9am so far, there's always a consistent 20K playing..

With this last patch, they implemented matchmaking for co-op bot matches. My biggest complaint for that mode is that it doesn't punish people for abandoning the game which is really annoying since it doesn't take much for people to quit.

I'm a long time League of Legends player and I was very excited to see DOTA 2 come out. My friends told me again and again how fun the original was, and I was eager to play. I applied for my beta key. In the mean time, I watched videos on every hero. I thought it was pretty cool- League designs their champs very conservatively; as a result you really don't see any radical departures from a key set of abilities (some kind of shield, some kind of CC, direct damage, etc.). DOTA was different in that nearly every hero felt VERY different, and some of their abilities were really off the wall. I was excited to play.

My first game I played Warlock, an I went like 9/1/10. I didn't like it though. I feel I didn't have to work to get any of those kills. All I had to do was drop my ENORMOUS ultimate on a teamfight and I would come out with several. How could anyone miss with that? After a few more games, I felt that the game was really more about mastering the little stuff (farming, denying, managing the courier, etc.) than it was about dueling and teamfighting, which, to me, seemed more like automatic procedures based on what heroes were present/how much gold they had.

On the other hand, League of Legends can often come down to who has blue/red buff, what summoner spells they have, and what runes they chose. All of which are independent of that actual hero you chose to begin with.

Also, your game with warlock, was that a bot game, matchmaking, captains mode? Did you repeat that result?

I've had game in League where I would go 18/2/20 as Lux but just because I got fed and was able to tear the other team apart but that doesn't mean the game was easy or doesn't focus on team fights.

I do get what you're saying, and I know some people are going to like one game over the other, but in my experience, Dota focuses so much more on the team fight. One missed ultimate, one miss timed chain stun, or someone forgetting to use an item can make the difference of taking the fight or getting wiped.

I guess dota 1 is much better than dota 2, the graphics of dota 2 is a little bit confusing and hard for the eyes (hope is just me).
