It would definitly be right for ACDC because it has humbucker pickups (alnico magnet duncans) and a set neck.... but seriously friend... broaden your horizons.... play more than just ac dc.... Dont be a one trick poney. As for this guitar, Its a lot of guitar for the money. The pickups are an import Seymore Duncan of some sort, but people responded and said they were hot and lively and not just hype when WMS had these on a deal back in the fall... they supposedly were really a hot pickup set. WMS did a deal on the same series of guitar back a few months ago but it was the PRO version and I believe the only difference was figured maple top versus a standard maple top and the binding. It got a very good response and was like 250 or 275 price range. Linux crew posted the deal and he is the guitar guru on here. His posts usually get a lot of attention. I bought a couple washburns from WMS on here, and can personally say I am happy with them and with WMS's service. I hope that helps. |

I have this model.
Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty with this one; one tone control does nothing, and I'm questioning the 1/4" jack. The Jay Turser, that I bought from the same company would never stay in tune. Much to AMS's credit, they sent me six new tuners. Now, to find the time to try to repair a new guitar. I have NO idea what we'll do with the Washburn; I surely am not going to re-wire it. I may be done with inexpensive guitars. |

^Tone controls are pretty useless in general. Turn it into a coil splitter instead? The tone control has little to do with the jack. The tone should serve as a filter connected to the volume pot. The volume pot is connected to the jack, not the tone pot.
Tuning issues could be the nut, which is probably cheap plastic. Try lining the nut slots with pencil graphite. Do the same to the bridge saddles. I'll go out on a limb and guess you bought a strat style turser with a vintage style tremolo. Cheap guitars with tremolos never work out that well. If my guess is correct, I suggest that you bock off the tremolo. I like doing this with some pennies and some super glue. Takes 15 minutes and it completely reversible (no glue goes on the guitar).

The top is definitely carved as it is not a flat top and is raised or arched,but it may be a maple layer or veneer. But then again why would they use a veneer? The only reason to use a veneer is to use less of an expensive wood and this is not a figured maple top like flamed maple or quilt, so actually might be carved maple. Either the mahogany or the maple is carved, but either way the same carving is done to shape the top. I also never use the tone knobs. I think they invented that concept before we had every sound and tone imaginable at our feet (literally) with all the pedals people use today. Tone knobs seem like an outdated concept.

Epiphone les paul guitars are often maple veneer with some unknown wood top and Gibson studio faded models (the cheaper ones) don't have maple tops at all. A solid piece of maple for the top (3/4") is not really that inexpensive (when compared with the overall price of this guitar). The real way to tell is for someone to take out the bridge pickup and look in the layering. Maple is pretty easy to distinguish from mahogany.
The maple cap (3/4") will definitely change the sound of the guitar, and this model could be maple. If it is maple, I am certain it will be 4 or 5 pieces, less than 3/4" and they would still put a veneer over it. The "mahogany" is also most likely nato. Still a good price on this. Just saying that it may look like a les paul, but it won't sound like one. For $199, I'm not sure that anyone cares though.

I am by no means a gibson fan boi. I have a few gibson but rarely play them.
Agiles are good stuff. I am not sure, but I'd suspect that they use nato instead of "mahogany" too. Anyhow, the AL-3000M will sound and play similar to recent gibson les paul (after a pickup swap). I am sure this washburn is good too, and it is $100 (almost 40%) less than the agile. I just wish washburn was more forthcoming with the specs. I like that agile is so forthcoming about their specs. Though these details are minutia to a beginning guitar player. As long as it isn't plywood or laminate, it should be fine.

Re: the Washburn LP WIN; The tone control for the bridge pickup does not function at all. It should do something. As well, I noticed that when I play the guitar while sitting on my bed, there is pressure on the straight 1/4" plug that is inserted into the 1/4" jack. Sometimes that the connection seems to fail. In all fairness, however, I have not yet tried another cord. (When in doubt, always swap cables!) On the Turser, you are correct; I purchased one with the built-in whammy bar. In spite of removing the bar completely, the strings still will not stay in tune. When I corresponded with AMS, they said they would send a new set of tuners. I questioned the saddle, instead, since all the strings go out of tune. I will, hesitantly, attempt to install the new tuners without scratching the guitar. I don't think that this will solve the problem; my contact with AMS indicated that there was no know issue with the tuners. I will try graphite on the nut; thanks. Failing that, I want to just return the guitar to AMS; I am NOT a luthier and have no business taking an electric guitar apart. ( I do like the idea of blocking the tremelo, though, since I think that is the location of the trouble. I just can't see all six of the tuners failing at once.
