So I was going to create a new thread but I did a search and came across this thread. I was going to take old printer to ewaste, but thanks for the trade in bonus reminders. My question was: What are the security risks, if any when recycling all in one printers? For ex. Do they retain your scan images in memory somewhere in the printer? Is there anything one should do before recycling printers as far as data erasure, etc?

In most cases the printers don't store much if anything in their memory. Make sure there aren't any memory cards in the printer's card reader. Many AIO printers do have internal memory that can store received faxes, scans generally wouldn't be stored internally in consumer oriented AIO's. Go through the menus and try every option to reset the device or erase memory. Check if any internal memory in the device shows us as an SMB share. |
