Should be, but it will turbo/boost to 2.3GHz as needed.

this cpu was release in june 2011 right? my friend for some reason wants an intel cpu with samsung for around 400. would this be a good buy?

i did a benchmark google and this cpu (only) is equavalent to about an i3? (would this be the 2nd gen sandy bridges?)

intel for $400? Tell him to get an AMD instead. Unless he is willing to drop over 600, no point in getting Intel. This CPU is weaker than a quad-core i5, but better than the dual core i3/i5.

oh really. I own TWO of these computers, a HP Mini with Intel Atom CPU, a Phenom ii X4 rig, an i7 Hexa-Core Rig, an an i3-desktop. I also have an Old Celeron Laptop, Core 2 Duo Desktop, Celeron Desktop, AMD ii X2 Desktop, and a pentium laptop.

So Iam not being ignorant. Iam stating a fact that the 1.6Ghz Quad Core is not the same as a 2.0Ghz Intel Quad Core i5.

Intel > AMD

Price wise:

AMD > Intel

Amd offer better bang for you buck, but Intel is much higher end.

before you jump the gun, it seems to me like the guy was saying his friend was being ignorant in wanting a quality intel core-i laptop at under $400. not that you were being ignorant in your response.

For 95% of users:
AMD > Intel

We have reached the "good enough" point in regards to CPU's. For the high end (i7), Intel will continue to dominate; however, very few people need/use this much processing power. The future is energy efficiency and APU's (CPU/GPU integration); the two things Intel is incompetent at. Proof is in the Atom series and the crappy HD graphics. Llano is a better choice in laptops and Trinity should do the same for desktops.


For the OP, this is not a slick nor even an okay deal.
